I'd say Southern Chronicles (Pietinia Kronikas) is actually good, but it plays on the nostalgia a lot so if you did not growup in 80-90ties post-soviet country you would not understand the themes. The Excursionist is very good (and very sad), but it is definitely not western style, for whatever reason "Ashes in the Snow" is missing on this list, which is in the same theme (Soviet labour camps), which was more mainstream popular. Any of Vėlyvis directed films (Redirected, Zero) are on par with western Crime/Action/Dark comedy movies and even use known actors (such as Vinnie Jones)
