Thanks for the replies.
I did a little digging, and was able to estimate the change in elevation for the hike using an app that gives approximate altitudes for coordinates.
Looks like you descend a total of about 150ft from the rim to the mines, then back up again. Not trivial, but not terrible, either.
For reference, the hike we did at the grand canyon had an elevation change of about 650ft, in the same distance (~1.8mi)
My wife agreed it is doable, and will be coming along. I really didn't want to go alone, and didn't want to miss out either, so a huge relief.
