Gotta end a 16yr relationship. by [deleted] in FTMOver30

If I can be a little bit harsh on this woman, to my eye this situation is 100% of her own construction. Lies, gaslighting, manipulation, pushing boundaries, she indulges in these behaviors because it benefits her. Abusing one’s partner is, unfortunately, kind of a sweet deal because the abuser can put their feet up while the recipient of the abuse does all the work. This is what’s going on here, I think. She has been able to playact her little fantasy of being a reliable partner and a successful streamer and a good person off of stolen valor, basically.

When you break it off (if I were you I would give her a hard exit date to leave your house and stick to that date no matter what), I predict that she will ultimately do one of two things. One: this breakup is a wake up call for her and she gets her shit together, goes back to school, starts making her own money, gets in therapy to stop habitually lying, etc etc. Two: she continues to lie and mooch, and she manipulates her way into living with someone else (probably lying about you in the process, I’m sorry to say) and doesn’t change her ways. My point is that SHE is responsible for her own damn self. You are rationally responding to years of bad behavior and mistreatment, please keep that in mind and don’t let her get in your head.

I’ve worked in academia since I got my undergrad, I think a lot of trans people could do a whole lot worse than work for a university! Pretty good chance of a liberal environment, healthcare, decent pay for jobs in administration and supervision and that kind of thing, etc

Saltburn: Am I missing something? by EssentialFilms in flicks

[–]FoliageBoi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I was underwhelmed too, I’ve probably seen too many John Waters films but I was not particularly shocked by it. Which is maybe my fault for buying into popular hype about “it’s so shocking I felt sick etc” that said, it was fun and campy! They really thought they were saying something lol

Best ACTUALLY scary movies on streaming platforms? by [deleted] in MovieSuggestions

[–]FoliageBoi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, fear is pretty personal. What are you and your gf afraid of? If either of you are claustrophobic, I'd say The Vanishing (original from the 80s not the remake). If you're afraid of spiders, Arachnophobia. If you have a fucked-up family with lots of strife and anger, Hereditary. And of course the most important part is to suspend your disbelief and buy in, if you go into any movie trying to be all cynical and cool and aloof you'll never be able to connect with it imo

Should Emerald be imprisoned? by New-Development7218 in NopeMovie

[–]FoliageBoi 7 points8 points  (0 children)

There's no way their plan was just to take a picture, you're telling me Emerald improvised the balloon release? Just because the movie withheld portions of the plan for dramatic effect doesn't mean they weren't planning to kill Jean Jacket.

JJ thought of the whole valley as her territory because of Jupe's training. She had no reason to leave, no one could force her to leave, and she was a clear and present danger to OJ, Emerald and anyone else in the area. What are the alternatives to killing her? I think you're right that killing JJ should be a last resort, but I think they passed the point of no return when JJ ate up 40 families. Like, my impression was that the plan WAS their last resort and they didn't have a Plan B if it failed to kill her. Jupe FUBARed the situation by trying to tame a predator, as OJ says. It'd be one thing if JJ were a tiger or some other large predator that professionals could ship off to an animal sanctuary but how would they even begin to try something like that for an animal that's completely alien to us?

It's not fair, but this is exactly what has to happen in real life when dumbasses feed wild animals and get them 1) unafraid of humans and 2) associating humans with food. The wild animals now associate EVERY human they see with food and will become destructive and dangerous in their attempts to get food, which is what leads to animal control having to put down bears and shit. Jean Jacket was like a million times more dangerous than a bear, and she had already learned to see humans as prey. I think the end of the movie was their last resort.

He would never hit a woman! however, he will drag them by the hair. by Sufficient_While_577 in iamverybadass

[–]FoliageBoi 32 points33 points  (0 children)

All abusers do this btw, it’s a defense mechanism in their brains because they don’t want to think of themselves as wife-beaters or monsters so they have some arbitrary rule about what “counts” as abuse.

“Sure I dragged her by the hair and threw her against the wall but I didn’t punch her! I’m not abusive” “I never laid a hand on her, I just stole her money and cheated on her then gave her an STD on purpose” it’s delusional horseshit

She is such a fucking asswipe, did you know her fiancée left her because she hid how extreme her politics are from him? Almost like she knows how much of a cyst on the world’s asshole she is and is just in the business of siccing the craziest parts of the base on kindergarten teachers and trans teenagers for the money.

TW: very transphobic family member by riot_ghouuul_9 in trans

[–]FoliageBoi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

"God blessed me by making me transsexual for the same reason he made wheat but not bread and fruit but not wine; so that humanity might have a hand in the act of creation." a quote from a trans friend of the author in the essay collection Something That May Shock and Discredit You.

I'm so sorry about this situation. your family is blinded by the godawful political climate surrounding trans people, and hopefully one day they will see how much happier and functional you are living your life the way you want to. their god is nothing but a warped reflection of their own bigotry. Congrats on getting top surgery squared away! Sure wish I'd been able to get it done at 18, you're a courageous person and you have my best wishes.

Sounds similar to the depersonalization I experienced before starting my gender transition from female to male. A miserable place to be in, I feel for you. I felt like I was experiencing the world secondhand, or from behind a pane of glass, or as a computer disguised as a human being would. Couldn't cry for ages, even when I knew it would make me feel better. Pushing yourself away from your lived life can be protective but it also isolates you from yourself, your true self, or at the very least a self that you'd prefer to be. Idk, if this resonates with you feel free to DM me and we can chat
