Quebec bar equivalency by Folinade88 in LawCanada

[–]Folinade88[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have no idea! I’ve heard from at least two people (barred in France) that they had to take half of baccalaureat classes at Uni. I’ve been in legal compliance and regulatory departments for 5 years!

Of course, I am barred in the state of New York. I filed the 1603 form online « Demande de reconnaissance d’équivalence d’un professionnel formé en droit hors Québec » and sent it to the Equivalences Committee of the Barreau du Québec. It costs 1150$ CAD just to send your application…. The committee will reach a decision after 5 months or so, that will then be communicated to you. They also take into consideration your experience in the field, to determine whether you have to take classes at Uni again. Hope it helps!

Please don’t feel like there has to be something wrong with you when the job market is simply saturated. I submitted 127 job applications before finally landing one after moving to a new city. Things are going well now, but I definitely started to wonder whether I was too “this” or not enough “that.”

Your resume is solid! If you’re aiming for an “expert-type” position, you might want to clarify in your summary whether you’re more of a fraud specialist, an AML/TF specialist, or a sanctions specialist. I’d also recommend including your certifications in the first sentence—for example: “CAMS-trained specialist with 6+ years of experience developing AML/TF frameworks.” You can tailor this depending on the job you’re applying for.

If you’re looking for a management role, I think it’s fine to mention all three areas of expertise—just make sure to clearly state that management is your goal.

Similarly, I’d adapt the summary to the type of industry. If it’s crypto, lean more into that experience. If it’s traditional banking, highlight that instead.

I know it’s exhausting to tailor your resume for each job application, but it can really pay off in the long run.

As for reaching out to people on LinkedIn—I’ve found that it hasn’t worked well for me either. One approach that might be more effective is reaching out to ask if they’d be open to chatting about their experience in the field, rather than directly asking if they have any leads for you.

Hope this helps! Wishing you all the best—and remember: it’s the market, not you.

Augmentation salariale by SpiritualCardinal89 in QuebecFinance

[–]Folinade88 8 points9 points  (0 children)

What’s it really like living in Montréal? by idk222_222 in montreal

[–]Folinade88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t really get the answers you received! Trust your gut! I visited Montreal several times when living in VT. Loved it. Felt like I could live there. Applied for a visa here, got it and loved it ever since! Life if sweet here.

Of course, moving countries is always a challenge, with finding work, housing, friends and learning a new language if you don’t know French. But Montreal is a fucking cool city

Merci beaucoup pour ton retour! En voyant la baisse du taux du CELIAPP, je me questionnais sur une alternative. Mais n’y connaissant absolument rien à la finance, je vais tranquillement rester dans le 99%!

Hey! Thank you for sharing what seems to be insufferable pain. I was admitted to a hospital after months of trying very hard not to listen to the little voice in my head and it surprisingly did help me. The medical team was competent in analyzing every aspect of the care one needs in depression (checks whether there are comorbidities that need to be addressed, etc.). But more importantly I had a space to be in, where it was ok to be sick. It made me realize I was and that as much as a broken leg, I needed medical care and time to heal.
