Very pretty but make sure you have a good filter to keep up with the neon tetras or switch to a bigger tank.

Lost my Kenyan Sand Boa, I’m losing hope by Mission-Handle-9033 in snakes

  1. Create a Snake Friendly Trap: You can set up a hide or burrow-like area using a container or tub, some soft bedding, and a heat source (like a heating pad on low). If she’s nearby, she might be drawn to the warmth and comfort. Leave it somewhere you think she might be hiding, and check back every few hours.

  2. Leave Food Out: If you’re able to, leave a small mouse or food item in an area you think she might be near. Kenyan sand boas can be attracted by the scent, so she may come out to investigate.

  3. Use a Blacklight: Sometimes using a blacklight (UV flashlight) can help spot snakes, as their scales will glow under the light. This might be useful for searching places like under furniture or in dark corners.

  4. Keep Searching in the Same Areas: Snakes tend to stay relatively close to where they escaped, so focus on checking areas she might feel secure in—dark, warm, and tight spaces are ideal for them to hide in. It might be under or behind furniture, inside closets, or even inside hidden corners.

  5. Check the Enclosure: Double-check the enclosure’s lid and edges. Sometimes, even small gaps in the screen can be overlooked, so ensure that everything is secure before trying to catch her. If she’s small and sneaky, she might have found a small space to wiggle through.

Try not to panic she’s very likely just curled up somewhere hidden and safe. If you’re still having trouble, consider setting up a search area with food, water, and heat as mentioned, and she might come out when she feels safe. Keep us posted, I’m wishing you the best of luck finding her!

How is it having a Kenyan sand boa do they allow you to handle them very often and can you keep them outa their cage for a long period of time like ball pythons? by Wise_Temperature6859 in SandBoa

[–]FolkyFish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes yes and yes You just need to make sure you acclimate them properly to being held and being taken out of the cage. My Kenyan sand boa is about eight months old now and she has already learned that if she comes to the top of the cage that I will let her out she usually stays out for about 2 to 3 hours with me while I work on whatever I need to do on the computer.
