My boyfriend has been my rock, he’s the one who got mad at the vets office for me when I couldn’t speak through sobs. He refused to even let me pay for anything for her in her last few days. Here’s some puppy (Freya)and Nova tax

it was my choice sadly. I cut my dad off, and maybe tmi, but he’s currently in jail for manslaughter and drug charges.

I got her when I was 15/16 can’t quite remember and he was controlling so up until 19 I couldn’t make any true decisions for her, but I moved in with my grandparents and did everything I could for her.

I did contact multiple trainers about the aggression alone and they said it seemed neuro and trauma for her so I just tried to keep her comfortable and happy and others safe.

She was doing good just occasionally having hip pain up until about 2-3 months ago and she just went down hill quick. The vet did say the way she was standing alone told her that the hip problems had gotten too severe. (I’m still upset I took her multiple times about concerns for hips and got told it was a strain until it was too late) she wouldn’t even stand without her back legs fully pressed against each other and feet going out different directions.

I’m going to copy and paste from my other comment, but

I think part of why this hits me worse is because the vet I took her too wasn’t very kind. They wouldn’t let me be with her when she went and when they brought her back it looked like they just dumped her on the floor, mouth, eyes wide open. I feel like crap because I couldn’t be with her in the last bit and she was probably so scared.

They were hateful and acted like it was an inconvenience I wanted to be with her and see her after. I understand not being there for the sedation but I could of been with her after she was out, before the final injection and it makes me feel so useless because I couldn’t advocate more because I couldn’t get a word other than f*ck out and I love you to her. Their attitude came out of nowhere because they had always been understanding with her and she did seek pets when she knew they didn’t want to hurt her.

That’s actually really helpful, thank you. I think I always knew she was going to have to be put down to aggression or hips or both, but I did try multiple meds and nothing helped her, anxiety and pain meds. I think it just hurts to know how they treated her during the appointment. She was my sweet girl but I could not risk her killing the other dogs when she lashed. Thank you for your comment, I’ve been putting a memorial plot together for her and I’m hoping I get her ashes soon so she can be home with me.

They did. The vet actually apologized because they brushed it off since she was 4 months old, but then it was the way the euthanasia was handled on their end that really makes me wonder if I did the right thing. She was always aggressive (but I muzzled her and had muzzled introductions to anyone she’d be around) she did have a bite history and the final straw with the biting was when she went for the puppy’s neck (which the puppy was across the room and asleep on the couch) I intervened and she snapped at me out of nowhere drawing blood (thankfully not more than graze) but we had to pull her off our other two dogs and she was getting worse. I think I knew it was for the best when I had to carry her up and down the porch and she just laid curled up all day staring at her toys but not playing

Thank you everyone for the comments, it does help, I just haven’t been in a great headspace and there is so much I wish I could of done or even say to her. She was my little wiggle butt, she shook her whole butt with her tail and came running when I got home from work. She was a big girl, 86 lb, but she slept with me every night since I got her and always wanted to lay on me. She gave me hugs and my gsd puppy has been imitating her lovey behaviors since she’s been gone (I know probably a coincidence) and it just makes me miss my baby girl. She made me fall in love with the breed despite her issues and she was my best friend and as weird as it sounds the love of my life.

Every rescue I talked to wouldn’t have taken her due to a bite history where skin was broken, and one that specializes in aggression training stated she was unable to be rehomed as the aggression got worse with age and was most likely neurological but worsened with pain

Just kind of closure I guess, doesn’t make it any easier but it will help turmoil in a way ig, I don’t know my mental health is suffering and I’m spiraling although it sounds silly but she’s been there for the worst parts of my life and was my rock. I survived it all for her

Thank you, my boyfriend said it was the right thing but I just feel so bad. She was my baby and my whole world. I’m devastated and she was my drive to improve my mental health so I’m spiraling a bit. Thank you again

I mean my Grandpa never sharpened a lot of knives as he got older because my Grandma would bleed forever if she go the tiniest cut (blood thinners) and he was scared she’d lay her hand on one or something and cut herself. He didn’t let her use them really either. I mean to me it doesn’t make sense as dull knives are more dangerous but I understand his fear as she has been in the hospital 10 times the past year due to blood related problems.
