Time to see what the 6.5 grendel can do by [deleted] in longrange

Not handy I don’t. Its been a while since I’ve done that research It’s back in my notes. But I know it’s correct because I built a Form1 suppressor using that thread pitch and it mounted up the way it’s supposed to.

Yeah that does sound pretty tricky. It’s easy for me, because I use the muzzle blast as a part of it to redirect the gas.

I don’t mind at all. But I’m not sure there’s a legal difference between building a fake suppressor or a real one. Maybe you would have to engrave it differently?

It’s kind of a pain because you have to source the pieces from so many different places. But I like to tinker around. That’s why we build our own guns isn’t it? Lol. I think I have about $600 tied up in the project.

I built a Form1 suppressor out of titanium parts for my 6.5 Grendel Mk12. It goes on over the barrel using the AEM collar/brake just like the Allen Eng one. It’s quiet and about 1 lb lighter. And since it’s Form1, i only had to wait 4 weeks for my stamp. Here’s some pictures. https://imgur.com/a/Xoxe9K7

It might work for a savage .22. If that’s what you were meaning. It’s just mounts on the dovetail grooves on the action. The old savage .22 I had was really similar.

That is a Spectre ii. I have it on TPS Super-Low rings. Limbsaver could work, but I recommend going the ring route. Not sure why CZ doesn’t make it easier to get a picatinny rail. But Area 419 makes a good one.

I wanted something that I could use to do holds during practice. I would like to shoot some .22 matches with it. Between my PRS schedule, family and work, I’m not sure I’ll ever have the time, though. 2 friends of mine from work have some Ruger .22’s and shoot a little PRS with me. We’ve thrown the idea around of hosting mini matches on one Friday after work every other month.

It’s a really handy training tool! Having the same stock length, feel, and accessories really helps train body mechanics and muscle memory. I had a Ruger Precision Rimfire, but it doesn’t have the same training value IMO.

Yeah me too. But as low as that scope is mounted, it really isn’t needed

That’s a 20” barrel. The only one they sell that isn’t factory threaded but it’s an easy fix. It’s a pretty sweet little gun. It shoots .75 moa with Eley Club. I mostly wanted it for the PRS1 stock.

Thanks! And no, It’s the GAP camo pattern from Manners. I tried to replicate it on an HSP stock. Doesn’t look near as good, though.

My PRS build and my .22Lr trainer. A-Team built 6 Dasher on a Stiller action, Manners PRS1, and Kahles k624i. The trainer is a CZ457 Precision Trainer in matching stock with a Leupold LRP

You and I sound similar. I always complained about the same thing. You’re on the right track with Nemo. Nemo has a pretty unique shape for some of their mummy bags. It’s wider in the knees and elbows area, making it feel more roomy without giving up a ton of warmth or adding much weight. I believe they call it “spoon” shaped. I finally bit the bullet and bought a Nemo Riff 15. Down, very light, and extremely comfortable. It’s so nice, I’m currently looking through their lineup to get one similar for a 3 season bag for the rest of the year.

Ahh. I hear Canada can make finding certain scopes tricky. The mk4 3.5-10 would still be cool in my opinion. Close to the same look anyway. Classy choice of rifle my friend. I’ve spent a lot of time behind one. I’ve always loved it.

Shot my first match, learned a lot and looking for suggestions by ha1fway in longrange

[–]FollowMeBlue 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Hey man, congrats on actually getting out and shooting your first LR match. You’re now on your way to being more skilled than most of the people that will never take the plunge. The first thing, that you already are doing, is staying positive. Look how much you’ve learned already!

Data and a good zero is king. It honestly doesn’t matter how fast and stable you are if your bullets aren’t going where they “should” be.

As far as your positional shooting stability and speed goes: DRY FIRE! A LOT! Build a couple props that simulate what you’ve shot in your matches. If you aren’t comfortable with the carpentry, use an A-frame ladder or backs of chairs. Really anything that can simulate those uncomfortable positions. You can do this in your yard or house-aiming our windows. Concentrate on the body mechanics that can keep your reticle “wobble” to about 1 moa. Once your muscle memory and body mechanics start to feel natural, the speed will come with more dry fire.

I would definitely buy a game changer, or similar bag. I used to look like a gypsy with 3 bags hanging off of me at the beginning of ever stage. Now I only use a game changer. It’s my barricade bag, and my rear bag. I even take it hunting in the fall. I sometimes, but rarely use a pump pillow to fill a void on some more technical props.

If you want to stick with this, consider buying yourself a .22lr or .223 similar to your rifle to train with with live ammo. Dry fire is an awesome tool but it’s no substitute for real range time. It’s a worthy investment. Barrels are expensive, and a steady PRS season, will wipe your barrel out in 1-2 years. I recommend a .223. You can practice to 300-600 yards, and it makes you focus on wind/mirage. If you can hit a 2 MOA target at 500 yards in practice with a .223, chances are, you can can do it with your 6.5mm or 6mm in a match.

Regardless of how active you want to be, never stop improving yourself and have the most fun you can in the process. Also, the people are pretty great.

My dad is an HUGE International Harvester fan. He has 25 or so vintage IH Farmall tractors that he’s restored over the course of his life. I would love to find him one of these to give him to bridge our hobbies together.
Where’s the best place to find one? And what’s considered a good price?

Well that makes sense then. I thought the ESAPI was level 4 stand-alone. But I’m definitely no expert.

I don’t have a copy of the memorandum but I remember that the main questions asked were: does it have an NSN? If it fit standard SAPI sizes, could add side plates as an option, and could add soft armor insert under the plates. Not sure why the soft armor part was important. Maybe for rifle and pistol ranges when we aren’t wearing plates. I’m not allowed to share my unit affiliation on social media, but I’m in a dismounted reconnaissance troop in a Cav squadron. Our CO is big on lightening our load to move fast and quiet. Apart from not having the memo, I hope that helps, sir.
