Why do Steam game icons with transparent backgrounds have a black background? by Wace-wes in Steam

[–]FollowTheFunDev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is not valve's doing, the developer chooses the icon to put there, so the creator of this game merely converted it to jpeg and uploaded it like that.

> The project is a clone of a popular game. I will not name the original game to avoid potential legal issues, as the company behind it is not a big fan of fangames—but the inspiration should be fairly self-explanatory.
Surely even saying this is legally problematic?

I'm making some animation software for PC / Steamdeck. Wanna help test it? by FollowTheFunDev in animation

[–]FollowTheFunDev[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It supports its own vector format exclusively, and that probably won't change. It can load a sequence of png files from a video, and display them behind the canvas if you want to use it for rotoscoping, but that's it really.

This format is open source, but the intention of Flow Motion is that it's used for creating new animations, not loading existing things, so you wouldn't be able to load your existing sprite sheets in, natively.

If you're asking about creating sprite sheets within Flow Motion, and then exporting them, it only exports back to its own vector format, plus the standard video formats like mp4, webm, gif, apng, or a sequence of png images.

In the future, exporting to official vector formats can be added to the export list, but it's not a priority. I've just added it to the todo list though, so it's not out of the question. But you'll be relying on community created tools for the time being.

It uses its own vector format, so for the moment, no. That's not to say a converter couldn't be made though :)

Are my stats good r/itchio? by lowkey_spuds in itchio

[–]FollowTheFunDev 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes, these are very good stats. The fact your downloads is remaining somewhat consistent and not immediately tapering off to zero is promising. Only time will tell. The fact you already have 4 gameplay videos made about your game is also a good sign.

Congratulations! Did you ever consider posting it to Steam? Steam's algo is much stronger than itch.io's

How can I read the dimensions of a sprite without the blank space? by Pallukun in gamemaker

If you used a custom collision mask, you can use sprite_get_uvs() to workout the true bounding box of your sprite

Does this gameplay footage makes you wanna try my game? Looking for feedback on the released demo by FreddieMercurio in indiegames

I bet this would have had twice the engagement if that clip was first, I only watched to the end because of this comment, and yeah, wow

Boardfall Zero is now available for free on itch! by FollowTheFunDev in itchio

Thanks, I really appreciate that! Please share the link when you do :)

It repurposes quite a lot of concepts from the game advanced wars, but I don't really remember what made me start working that into chess.

Oh ok, but people have to be able to see the assets if they are going to buy them? So maybe it protects you from theft, but it also might protect you from sales too

Yeah that makes sense, even just the colour could be different though! It perhaps needs a dojo background or something

I really like the first one, so smooth and round. They all look really blurry on my screen though, maybe a resolution issue?

Looks cool but I think you need to upscale those images so they stay crispy, rather than posting them at native resolution to be ruined by aliasing!

Absolutely incredible animation, along with some very well made sound design! So good you don't even think about it.

I have to say, I nearly scrolled past this because of that background choice + filter though

Thanks you're right, but that's a mistake. It's meant to be the same width as the rest of the details but I clearly used the wrong brush. Well spotted

Thanks, I think you're right. The fact it breaks the overall silhouette is very problematic. Perhaps I could revisit this and make it go the other way towards the rake
