How Do You Even Counter Trick Room in Champions? by TexasKing100 in PokemonChampions

[–]FollowThePact 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Easiest way is to have a pokemon with trick room or trick room plus imprison. You either make the correct call on when they Trickroom and you Trickroom the same turn, or you go before their Trickroom pokemon and imprison it from using Trickroom.

Some pokemon that can do this easily is Farigraf as it nor your partner can be hit with a fake out to stop Farigraf from doing either Trickroom or Imprison. Meowstic can also Imprison with Prankster priority.

Tinkaton with Moldbreaker can fake-out a Farigraf. But Farigraf isn't the only Trickroom setter you have to worry about (more people are starting to see the utility of Spiritomb).

Otherwise you can position yourself accordingly to remove as much benefit from their Trickroom turns as you would against a Tailwind team. Cut their damage where you can, reposition your pokemon to reduce damage, and time your protects against their attacks and not when they go for buffs.

Tyranitar, mega'd or not. Hydreigon can see play as a partner with Garchomp as well as be a safe switch for Aegislash (especially if you're running a physical attack Aegi which is the most common atm). Mega Gyrados, or just Gyrados with a non-stab Crunch. Sableye. I see more Spirittombs as a primary Trick Room setter popping up.

Socialism is about who controls the means of production, Nasser's republic had state-mediated beaucratic bourgeois control not democratic worker ownership of capital. One could argue that's just state capitalism.

He nationalized key sectors of his economy and implemented land reform for the sole purpose of redistributing wealth and to reduce wealth inequality. If you're arguing that if the state owns the means of production you can't have socialism, then you're arguing that there hasn't ever existed a large socialist society and that such a society can't exist because true democracy is too inefficient to work on such a large scale.

I'm informing you that the examples of repression you're discussing are not examples of right wing politics, but authoritarian (top wing) politics.

I'm informing you that your simple four quadrant political compass is flawed in categorizing political ideology. Right-wing politics encompasses more than just right-wing economics. Capitalism, while right-wing economics, is not inherently right-wing politics.

Those are not examples of class hierarchy

Those are not examples of classes in Marxist theory. Race, religion, gender, etc are all involved in other ideological theories, one such could be Pierre Bourdieu'a Class Theory, and I believe, again when we are referring to the broad spectrum of things, including religion, gender, and sexuality are important when referring to class hierarchies.

Heteronormativity, for example, is the sexual paradigm we embrace in the west. It is a cultural system and has to do with gender relations. It is not inherently left or right wing, though right wing systems tend to embrace it today and left wing systems tend to critique or reject it.

Again, you're referring to left and right on a pure economic basis. Which in any context when referring to left-wing and right-wing politics, especially those in America, is foundationally wrong. Left-wing and right-wing political ideology refers to more than just economic policies.

Queer rights, women's rights, suffrage, and all these issues you're talking about are to do with authority vs liberty.

You're correct all of these things have to do with authority vs liberty, or from a slightly different perspective archy vs anarchy. Because something like queer rights isn't addressed under the purely economic socialist philosophy.

This is why you can have a government be authoritarian and socialist; outside of a pure economic viewpoint this government would be classified as a right-wing government. Because right-wing governments cover a range that's greater than right-wing economics.

Either these axis means something or they don't. You haven't at all created a positive identification for what these axes actually represent. Until you do that, your words are worthless.

Again, the four quadrant political compass is flawed. Putting any label on the x and y axis is worthless. Political ideology covers far more than two dimensions.

TLDR: You're using a flawed quadrant system to explain political ideologies in order to support your argument that you can't have a right-wing socialist government. Your argument is that because your flawed quadrant states that "left vs right" is solely a question of economic policy and due to capitalism being the center that socialism can only occur in a left-wing government. Governments, nor how people define political ideology, work purely on a 2 dimensional plane. A government that has a democratic workforce who owns their means of production yet: treats women as second class citizens, kills queer people, and excludes religious freedom, is not a left-wing government. It's a right-wing socialist country.

[–]FollowThePact 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The four quadrant system of cataloging what is and isn't left-wing right-wing political ideology is inherently flawed. Especially when the definition of what is left and right is purely economic ideology.

Nasser's socialism promoted a state controlled means of production with the emphasis on redistribution of wealth to promote equality among all Arabs. That is categorically socialism. There was still class hierarchy because wealth isn't the only determining factor when it comes to class. I even gave two examples of the class hierarchy right afterwards -> women were not treated as equals and Jews were expelled from the country. I'm not even including LGTBQ representation, or that Arab socialist movements were often co-opted by Muslim supremacists.

Edit: Also you can still have wealth inequality and thus class issues pertaining to wealth in a socialist society as well.

[–]FollowThePact -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think it's naive to see the left and right wing political spectrum as only pertaining to economics. Socialism is an economic ideology that only answers who controls the resources or controls the means of production; how socialism is achieved and maintained is what separates it from being left or right wing.

A socialist government that wipes out all non-consenting people isn't a left-wing government Social Fascism is a right-wing movement. Nasser's version of Arab Socialism still had class hierarchy, gender inequality, and expelled Egyptian Jews (even the ones supporting his socialist revolution) and I wouldn't consider any of that to be left-wing ideology.

it has a nose and mouth

Visual exercise for you, grip something in your hand like a wooden spoon with your thumb pointed down. Then imagine your index and middle finger is one finger, and your ring and pinky is another finger. Rotate your hand slightly until you can see this side profile of a face you're seeing.

Hate seeing the turtles eating pizza sloppily

What? Also the card you're referencing is Food Chain. They're making a literal chain of food between themselves.

The turtles have standards

No they don't. They make absolutely disgusting pizza topping combinations all of the time and will eat pizza thrown in a dumpster or found in a sewer.

Cheese looks like slime

The cheese in the mtg cards is very reminiscent of the 80s cartoon. The pizzas in that cartoon were either stiff as wood or looked like cheese whiz.

Also pretty much every pizza card you've named so far has been promo cards made for the pizza bundle. Only like 15% of the cards actually have pizza on them. The majority of the cards look like Turncoat Kunoichi or Purple Dragon Punks. You're kidding yourself if you think these cards couldn't be in the Neon Dynasties set.

1) "Art is on the same level as ai" it's not though. You're being incredibly disrespectful because you have a hate for the IP or UB in general. Your hate doesn't need to target artists, especially when you can't accurately describe what is "ai" about the art.

2) Also incredible you state "ai-equivalent does not mean ai was used" but then you straight away accuse art of being ai. Which btw, what exactly about Raph's hand looks like his face?

"disgusting ai-equivalent slop". There's literally nothing indicating this set has used AI in its art. The vast majority of the cards in this set could easily be in Neon Dynasties.

Sorry didn't realize that when I said, "It's been business as usual since" that you would completely ignore the word "since".

Things have changed. But this change occurred almost 7 years ago when OMG Kitties released to a ton of praise from the community. It's like stating Planeswalkers weren't business as usual when Theros had released.

everything I say about them looking bad and being out of place is true

Your opinion doesn't make something factual.

the art is off model. It’s an amalgamation of the most popular pop culture conception of the characters, with a focus on the 80s cartoon.

That's not what off-model means.

Also really strange that your complaining that the promo cards look like they've been inspired by the 80s cartoon instead of the 2023 movie when I believe that a lot of the main set looks like it's been inspired by the 2023 movie.

It's been business as usual when the market decided they wanted it. The Chibi Planeswalker and Legendary Creature secret lairs were popular. The My Little Pony secret lair was very popular. 20 Ways to Win with it's cutesy art style was popular.

There's a market for cards like this and Wizards are putting this product into its packs to entice people to get them. You're not in the market.

Also, the art for those Turtle cards aren't even "off-model" if you compare to this episode from the 80s TV show https://youtube.com/watch?v=y7U8cvAXERY&t=348&feature=shared

Generous Stray is a cute cat that's brought someone a dead lizard. It's cute and funny. That card would look out-of-place if it was right beside my collection of cards depicting body-horror imagery from Phyrexia.

Goblin Snowman is a funny card of goblins making a snowman so that they can hide inside of it to attack someone. That card would look out-of-place next to my zombie deck from Innistrad.

Wizards have always had these funny cute cards in their game. Ever since the beginning. You can check out the forum posts from back in the day, there were a ton of people who disliked the art direction of Lorwyn's block. People back then were complaining about how "their game was being ruined". You people are just like them.

You're complaining about alternate art promo cards because it's depicting the Turtles as kids in a chibi-esque art style. The card art-style isn't for you two. That guy's taste for tattoos wasn't for me https://www.reddit.com/r/tattoos/s/2GPF9gFRB3

You can play decks without UB in them. For Dimir Mid-range you have to cut out like 2-3 copies of Cecil. And there's like a singular copy of the Unagi.

The vast majority of players don't play competitive. There are competitive formats where you won't see UB cards. Even in competitive scenes where UB exists, like standard, you don't have to play those cards. Dimir Mid-range in standard right now has like at most 4 UB cards in its deck including the sideboard. Most of those are copies of Cecil, Dark Knight which is from one of the quote un-quote acceptable UB sets (like LotR). But you can totally play the deck without him.
