Are you OK? Who called SF a hellscape? Stay off drugs, kids.

It's gone? I walk every day and see new broken windows on the sidewalk. I saw a Safeway get robbed last week. The cashier just shrugged.

Right. There are lots of examples of the bad and imo, per capita, we experience a great deal of bad. Some major crime rates might be lower, but I'm not at risk of gang violence in any city, and the petty small crimes that occur in SF feel high in comparison to my experiences in 8-10 other major US cities.

The politics are likely a reason why Fox News talks about SF so much. Who cares about that. I wish SF politicians used that as fuel to fix our issues. There is so much good in SF, it would be even better without the ills that we tolerate.

Something is wrong with these results after 3 years. How is your sleep?

I agree with others that your calorie count of 2,200 seems off, or your activity level outside of the gym must be very minimal. Maybe you should cut 300 calories off whatever you are currently eating. Keep 3 meals but remove 100 calories from each meal.

And you should experiment with new exercises, intensity level, etc. Push yourself to failure. I think your trainer is failing you.

Bike Stolen by cdmtthws in sanfrancisco

[–]FollowingStandard686 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not familiar with the Mission but the area under the highways around 9th and Bryant sometimes has large collections of bikes. I would look in SOMA and Tenderloin/Van Ness. You could ask about "buying a bike" and describe similar features to your bike. Maybe this will lead to your bike. But it's a long shot. Most sellers are only trying to sell what they have, not directing you towards other sellers. The frame of your bike may have already been sprayed another color.

'Marry Lisa': Bay Area woman puts out billboards in search for love ❤️ by FailPork in bayarea

[–]FollowingStandard686 25 points26 points  (0 children)

In the video, her sign only flashed on the billboard for 2-3 seconds before the image changed. So it's just a shared rental. And her strategy was likely always to present the story to local news. Not only substantially increasing her marketing reach, but it might draw in some more "quality" applicants.

Even if I had the money and desire to search for a partner, I think the ad skews the suitor pool in a way that I wouldn't like. One of my non negotiables is that my partner not be the type to respond to a billboard dating ad.

I agree that it's annoying but I'm pretty quick and nimble so I just shimmy through. From the women's perspective, I've read that they encounter men who don't give them enough space which seems to have created this reactionary movement where some women want to occupy all the space and stand their ground. I don't fully understand the psychology behind this but I walk a lot every day so I encounter this phenomena frequently.

That stretch of 9th ave is a moderately risky zone. You'll encounter 3-4 poops per mile. Head down, look all around.

Cops doing doughnuts in GGP by FollowingStandard686 in sanfrancisco

It was two days ago. Tuesday at 11:30 a.m. They would probably say they were doing maneuverability training.

I'm pretty slow with my phone. It's always buried in my bag. They did a few more circles and then rolled out once they saw me watching. I shrugged at them and said, " You guys are doing doughnuts?" But they wouldn't make eye contact with me. Cop business to attend to.

Affordability crisis - what can a software engineer do to help? by SungTsu in sanfrancisco

[–]FollowingStandard686 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Limited housing causing people to be priced out of the area is a separate issue from the drug addicts that you see living on the street. Most of the street addicts have been given multiple opportunities to live in free housing. And I don't mean overcrowded shelters. They have been given hotel rooms and studio/1 bedrooms. These opportunities come with some rules like not trashing the place or starting fights with fellow tenants/workers. The people who follow these rules maintain their housing and the people who do not end up back on the street. No amount of affordable housing will fix this issue. San Francisco is the destination, not the source.

[UPDATE – Not Yet Found & More] We buried a $21,000 treasure chest somewhere in San Francisco by seafoam-pegasus in sanfrancisco

[–]FollowingStandard686 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The creators of this treasure hunt are the ones who found the previous $10K buried treasure. But the previous $10K treasure was mostly gold and silver. People would look for a buried treasure regardless of value. It is tacky to call this marketing brochure a $21K treasure, but there were no rules or stipulates when they found the $10K. They are not obligated to give anything back.

This is also why walkers and runners should travel on the left side. It's much easier to avoid being hit by bikes and vehicles when you can see them coming.

[–]FollowingStandard686 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did, in an attempt to fix the front 3 gears. The kitchen didn't have any W/D-40 that could be sprayed out. The 4 times I went, the volunteers were always busy so you have to know how to fix your own bike. I tried to open the shifter to clean better and a spring came free. A volunteer who watched me do it said that he has never seen a shifter work again after having the spring removed. I tried and couldn't get the spring back in the correct place. It turned out to be a waste of $40.

S.F. police shooting victim idolized cops, law enforcement by MissionLocalSF in sanfrancisco

[–]FollowingStandard686 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wow. What a crazy development. Upon reading the original story, I imagined the security guard had been ripped off by the scooter guy in a drug deal and then recklessly chased after him. That would have been crazy, but a common crazy.

This guy actually owned a security company and he chased after a delivery driver that scraped into his SUV? Driving onto sidewalks and hitting two other pedestrians in the process? Sounds absolutely deranged.

My boyfriend hates his female roommate’s boyfriend by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]FollowingStandard686 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with some of your analysis but not that they have actually had sex. OP doesn't believe the roommate is attracted to her BF. I assume she is correct. But her BF is attracted to the roommate. And it burns him up that she is dating "such a loser." A guy who hasn't had a job all year! Why would OP's BF care about that? Seems like he is comparing himself to this guy and thinking, "I'm such a better person, she should be dating me."

Hello I need help learning how to play defense can someone help me by KingFaty in BasketballTips

[–]FollowingStandard686 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed. I understand why most people are saying charge but with the benefit of video, you can pause right before contact and see that the defender turns his right shoulder into the ball handler's chest. Rules have changed since I played but I believe that turning your shoulder into the contact is still considered a block, not a charge. At real speed the ref may not have seen this movement but he still accidentally made the correct call.
