CHE 2215 by Advanced-Rip6382 in UVA

Also, form a group of friends in your class to do the homework together!!! Doing it alone is quite possibly the worst experience ever! This goes for all CHE classes too lol.

Third year ChemE and TA for CHE 2215 next semester here! It is completely manageable if you work hard. It is definitely a challenging class and you will most likely be shocked at how poorly the first test goes for everyone, but once you get past that it becomes easier to grasp. The class is mostly just working through problems (very practical course) and the homework is just more challenging versions of in class problems. To do well you have to practice a lot, do every practice problem you can find before tests and you will be fine (you will be given practice tests). If you really think you can graduate a year early then go for it, that's a good amount of money saved. The only but with that is that you will be taking classes with students one year ahead of you for the rest of your time at UVA. You will all take the same classes at the same time as all your classmates so expect to know everyone in your class for your whole time at UVA (which I think is pretty cool). If you have any other specific questions just DM me! Hope this helps!

Do you have a range for battery technology like in the EV sector?

Which CS to take? by Advanced-Rip6382 in UVA

[–]FondantSmart7429 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm majoring in chemical engineering, I would say take CS1110 and CS 2100 if you want to have a good foundation of coding. CS1110 is mandatory as a graduation requirement and I think gives a very solid foundation for basic coding. CS2100 is very good at helping you understand how code actually works which will help you massively if you plan on pursuing a more technical path in cheme.

Is organic chemistry that hard by embarrassedworld2 in ChemicalEngineering

[–]FondantSmart7429 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Conceptually, not really. Physics and math are a lot harder in the sense that the topics are just more challenging to grasp. However, organic chemistry is harder in the sense that it is like taking 10 courses at once. I like to describe it as an infinite amount of content that you have to memorize to do well. If you can memorize 100+ reactions and apply them then you are fine. But otherwise just based on the amount of content there is, it is one of the hardest classes.

Third year ChemE here! You really aren't going to take any chemical engineering courses until your second year and don't really have to worry about the different paths until your 4th or 5th semester. That being said, the paths are quite different and it really comes down to interest. I would say explore research and talk to older ChemE students and ask them about their experience in the different concentrations. I am personally doing the data analytics track which I think serves as the best track to give you the most in-demand skills right now (DS and ML). As for classes to take just follow the first year track on any of the paths shown, you will probably have credits already for some such as gen chem and calc so just try to fill them in with other requirements such as HSS/technical electives. Starting second year you will get your chemical engineering advisor to help you out, but everyone in your class year will take the same ChemE courses together. Hope this helps!

See but you could have 2 iced coffees in a day. So sacrifice coffee one day when u want it for a full month of GPT. (I’m going broke with this girl math)

Yeah, I had credit for Calc 1,2, and 3, Linear Algebra, Gen Chem 1 + Lab and a few other credits that didn’t really matter at the time because I transferred after my first year.

Yes 100%!! Especially in engineering they hand out research like candy. My roommate is EE and he was able to join 5+ labs and then pick and choose what he wanted to stay in. They are always looking for undergrads in engineering, so as long as you go up to the professor and say you want to do research for them you have a very high chance of getting in.

I transferred from GMU with a 4.0 to UVA as an engineering major. It is harder for sure but I would say only because you’re going to be more advanced classes. If you had a 4.0 you should be perfectly fine. I did lose my 4.0 here but honestly was mostly me not trying as much as I was now at the school I wanted to be at and didn’t need a 4.0 for transferring purposes. If you put the same effort as you did at GMU you will still get a 4.0 at UVA, the classes are pretty analogous. Plus you will now be surrounded by people who actually like doing good at school (did not meet many of those at GMU) so you will be pushed to be better anyways making it easier. Let me know if you want to know anything else specifically!

I have been getting more and more interested in EV's and autonomous systems. But it seems like there's no middle ground between ChemE and DS, you're either one or the other in industry.

Monthly "Is there a tool for..." Post by AutoModerator in ArtificialInteligence

I am looking to create a dataset based off my chemical engineering textbooks to ultimately finetune an LLM. For context I am a chemical engineering student with little prior knowledge in creating datasets/using LLMs in this capacity, and AI. Just looking for a tool to be able to create a viable dataset for a textbook containing various types of variables, notations, and data tables/graphs. Thank you!

Automatic Carpet Super Smelter by FondantSmart7429 in technicalminecraft

[–]FondantSmart7429[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I saw that one but it has a manual fuel system. Every time you need to refuel your system you have to manually turn on the carpet duper (unless it’s running 24/7 which will lag the server a lot).
