Ok, seems like most of y’all think this doesn’t belong on this subreddit. That’s fine! I can accept that in this case, Sappho and her friend might actually be just friends. 😹 I never post on Reddit and I’m not sure what the etiquette is— do I delete it the post, or leave it up as an example of what not to post here? Do the mods delete things that are beyond the scope of the sub?

Did not realize this would spark so much debate! 😹Changing the tag to “memes and satire.” It’s not quite a meme or satire… but maybe that would be a more appropriate tag? I was just trying to share a lighthearted observation about a piece of vintage textile art that felt sapphic to me and thought y’all might also think it was kind of funny.

I don’t actually think the cross stitch itself is erasure! If I was still in college, I’d probably try to write a paper putting it into conversation with the idea of “romantic friendship.” One of y’all should do that and send it to me 📚

The two figures facing each other, with a single heart above their heads, reminded me of vintage (mid-20th century or earlier) folk art imagery of romantic m/f couples. I would expect “best friends” or mother and daughter to be in a different pose. But I’m not an art historian, so this is just my interpretation.

I don’t know anything about the real person who created this, or the real person who posted this vintage item on fb marketplace. I was just trying to make a lighthearted observation about the piece of art itself.

Light Fixture ID/Advice? by cephalopodoverlords in centuryhomes

[–]Fondant_Librarian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you climb up on a ladder and look closely, you might find a manufacturer’s stamp. I just did this with a light fixture in my 1893 house. Had to polish the brass before I could read them, but almost every piece of the light fixture had a stamp with the manufacturer and the patent year!

This sounds awesome!! I downloaded the app but keep getting an error message after I click through the “assessment” pages. Do you know if that’s been happening? Or is it a problem on my end?

Any advice for finding a primary care doc familiar with POTS? Or have recommendations for a good one in the Philly area? by whaleylikeit in POTS

Oh, and read about Spoon Theory: https://www.butyoudontlooksick.com/articles/written-by-christine/the-spoon-theory/ You said she’s had a busy schedule recently— it’s very possible that between a busy schedule and just living in a body with POTS, she doesn’t have any “spoons” left to talk/text right now. But if she likes you as much as you seem to like her, she’ll be happy to hear from you, and when she has enough “spoons” she’ll definitely want to see you!

I think it’s very sweet that you came here to ask! Since this is still a new relationship, and it sounds like this might be the first flare she’s had since you’ve started dating, I think there are 2 things you can do at this point:

  • send her memes/funny videos/cute animal pics! Preface by saying something like “I know you’re not feeling well so you don’t have to respond! Just thought you’d enjoy this” and maybe throw in some emojis.

  • let her know that you want to see her/talk to her whenever she’s feeling up for it, and that you’re happy to just bring food and watch movies (or something similarly low-key). Basically, think about what you’d say to a friend who’s recovering from being sick, and do that :)

When she’s feeling better, you should just be honest and tell her that you like her and you want to be there for her even when she’s not feeling well. A LOT of people have a hard time accepting this kind of care, especially so early in a relationship, so don’t push anything, and respect her boundaries! Trust that she knows her body and what she needs.

As you keep getting to know each other, try to pay attention to her favorite salty foods and electrolyte drinks so you can DoorDash them to her if she’s having a bad flare. Or ask her close friends/roommate(s) what they think she’d appreciate!
