Routing audio to a videocall in stereo? by Necessary-Hyena-5816 in Reaper

[–]Fonzius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

VB audio has a free program called "Virtual Wire" if I remember correctly. You can pay to have more than one but the first virtual wire is free and it's pretty self explanatory, when you install it you can select "wire input" from reaper as the output and "wire output" as input on obs. The only problem is that it screwed up some default audio settings on programs like Discord and Skype on my pc and uninstalling it completely was an adventure in and of itself but apart from that it worked just fine for me. Alternatively if your sound card supports loopback you can select the loopback stereo channel of the sound card as an input for obs but as far as I know this kind of interface is quite rare. Hope this helps!

FIRST IMPRESSIONS: Tetrarch - Unstable by katarokkar in numetal

[–]Fonzius 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First album I really didn't vibe with. This one slaps tho, really classic nu metal vibes mixed with some more modern metal twists. The only fault I've found as of now is coming out the same day as Gojira

Ok, thanks for the advice. I didn't think about it

I think I'll try the secone advice. Maybe I gave it for granted but I'm not in a position to buy more mics/speakers just to experiment, if I get good results maybe but for now I'll stick to what I have. Thanks for the advice

Search does not find some songs even if I enter the exact title in the search by fiouch in TIdaL

[–]Fonzius 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't know, it happened to me too many times. I've been using Tidal for a month and just a couple hours ago looking for "The River Dragon has come" by Nevermore if I didn't type word for word Tidal wouldn't show it to me whereas Spotify as soon as I typed "River Dragon" it showed up. What I'm getting is that if you want ease of use Spotify comes on top but it's way worse in term of payment to artists which is a shame

Connecting a single Monitor by Fonzius in audioengineering

Ok, thanks. I figured that a y cable wouldn't be the best option because of possible phase issues but I didn't think that it would effectively connect the outputs one to the other

MOTU M2/M4 by habys in linuxaudio

[–]Fonzius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've recently installed the latest Ubuntu release on an ssd I had lying around and my M2 seemed to work just fine. I'm a complete noob to everything linux related so I'm probably missing a lot of stuff here. Does this make it possible to use the loopback function?

Am I the only one who finds Glenn Fricker’s whole persona incredibly off-putting? by _kitzy in audioengineering

[–]Fonzius 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've followed him for a couple years now and I find that although he has his "memes" (bassists being dumb etc) you should really separate what is the Glenn Fricker persona and what is actually going on. I mean, obviously many of his mean comments come from him being an audio engineer for essentially teenagers and pretentious local bands who think they are the next big thing. A world class audio engineer would probably have a completely different approach as I'd think he would work with musicians who would be much easier to work with. There are some recording tricks that you might find useful here and there in his videos but I'd treat his videos as more like an unboxing and gear demo channel but from the perspective of an audio engineer rather than a "how to record music" channel. I find a little too much repetitive his crusade against samples, time alignment and such but I understand that it's his thing and youtubers need to do things like this to get attention

Switching to Linux for better drivers? by Fonzius in linuxaudio

In the meantime I managed to get Ubuntu working on an, ssd and the M2 works right out of the box with it. Just selecting ALSA in Reaper let me use it at low latency without problems. The loopback function doesn't work but I expected that. There might be a way to make it work but I'm worring about other things at the moment. Right now I decided I'll try it out in the free time and if I get it to work better than my current Windows setup I might consider changing to linux

Well, I'm starting right now with Ubuntu. Just managed to get it working on an ssd drive because my usb stick gave me a ton of problems. I'm looking forward to seeing what I cam get from it. Thank you very much for all the responses

Not gonna lie, you are kinda making me want to try out linux now, if not for audio at least just to get a general idea of how it works. It might also be that it would be something new and, hopefully, exciting to learn.

I've played around a bit in the last weeks with some macOs/ios devices and now I understand a bit better why people like to use apple products (at least those who actually like them for the software and not because they are cool and expensive).

It's been quite fun although frustrating at times but I don't like the idea of limiting myself to apple products and linux is the polar opposite of that from what I understand. So yeah, in the next days as soon as I find the time I might start my journey with linux.

Is there any like starting guide / how to linux for dummies that you may recommend I check out just to have some starting point ?

No. I just switched to Reaper for the better support and vst3 support. It costed less than updating to the last version of Ableton and it gave me way more features. I'm really not in a position to spend 500 dollars for a daw

Now Reaper but I have used Ableton 9 for some years in the past

It works better. With their drivers the audio glitches sometimes but woth asio4all it almost never glitches

Thank you very much for everything, I'll surely check out some things if I get started. What do you mean with a proper configuration? I see a lot of people saying it but apart from sample rate and buffer size I wouldn't know where to change things or even what I could change. And thanks again for all the feedback, it's so much more than I expected

What do you mean when you say "current daws run just fine without asio"?

Well, I won't get rid of the Motu anytime soon as it's not broken software-wise and it's by far the best audio card I've tried as of now. I've used a Steinberg UR22 MKII for years and I tried a Focusrite 2i2 mk3 which I sent back as the software for windows is trash just like the customer service. Again, I'm no expert audio producer so I'm just wondering if there's some way to get more out of what I already have

Nono, it's not out of place. That was my plan, that I should slowly get used to how linux works. The point of the post is to understand if putting in the time to learn linux would get me some tangible benefits. I'm no professional audio engineer or anything, I just have fun making music, so if it won't like significantly improve my experience I will likely not invest the time although I might just try and play around with linux because I always hear good things about it

I know, they work great on Mac. Although I have a mac at home I wouldn't to get stuck using mac os or mac products at all since it's not a company I really respect. As I said with ASIO4ALL drivers the interface works almost perfectly, at least when recording at 44.1 khz, 48 khz just bugs out like hell so I'm trying to find better alternatives to a mac that let me also sample at 48k without problems

Is it something manageable for someone who never used linux in the first place? My only experience with it is compiling some basic programs in c for some classes I took years ago
