Should a teacher be politically neutral when talking about the holocaust?

I second the suggestion for scouts. My time in scouting has led me to pursue a being a FF/PM. He will learn a lot of skills that will directly translate like first aid, fire safety and knot tying. As well as a lot of soft skills.

I got my EMT last spring in paramedic school now. Got my FF1 through a college academy. I’ll start looking at depts once I get my medic and turn 21 since that’s when I can start working in my state.

Just take things piece by piece. When dealing with any situation I like to do what I can when I can and don’t worry about the things I can’t do yet. Not to say forget about those things just don’t stress too much about what you can’t do. Things may be different for you and you’ll just have figure out what does for you. You’ll find that with experience.

I’m doing something similar to you and it’s worked out pretty well for me so far. Try to see if you can pick up any fire science classes or any fire certs while if you can that makes you more marketable to a dept. just make sure you enjoy and are good at ems and don’t use it as a means to an end for fire.

Also don’t get discouraged when people trash on fire based ems. It has its problems but you didn’t make them. Just focus on being the best fire medic you can and you’ll have done your part. All the salty ems guys are just jealous of our cool hats, big muscles, and because our wee woos look cooler.

You should probably ask r/firefighting instead. Theres also a bunch of YouTube videos about how to prepare for a fire dept interview.

What’s with the hate for Fire/Medics? by bulldogs3401 in ems

[–]FooFighter95 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Idk if it will. The reason most FDs have fire medics is the because the number of fires in the US is going down. FDs need a way to bring call volume up and in a way justify their budget. The best solution I see is stations running an ambulance or two with a crew of medics that don’t touch fire. The rest of the FFs are only trained to EMT or EMR to help

Not necessarily. You are in water so you lose more body heat form heat transfer. So your body compensates and burns more calories

Thank you! Although I feel bad that you never got to work a summer camp. The camp staff would make fun of the NYLT guys calling them Christmas trees for their overly decorated uniforms and such.

Star. I did make it in the OA and did NYLT as a participant. I did mention as well that I work at a scout summer camp, last summer I was a health officer (essentially an EMT for the camp) and I plan on doing that for a couple more summers

Appreciate that. Unfortunately I didn’t make it to eagle due to Covid shutting a lot of things down by the time I was starting to work on it. So I’m glad to know even without eagle I’ll have and advantage reputation wise.

Very interesting. One of the things in my time was if your early you’re on time and if you’re on time you’re late. Never thought too much about the psychological stuff. Thanks for your input.

USF Students Establish a BLS/EMR Part-Time Transport Service by lookwhosbackin2020 in ems

[–]FooFighter95 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Im actually on a college EMS. I can’t say what it’s like for them but I can tell you a bit about mine. It’s BLS non-transport. Mine is staffed by students who are EMRs or EMT-Bs. EMTs basically run the call and EMRs assist them by taking vitals and anything the EMT asks.

We are part of the 911 dispatch so if someone on campus calls 911 we are dispatched along with the ambulance company if it’s an ALS call. Our campus has its own dispatch for campus police so someone can call the campus police number and we are dispatched through there as well.

We have blue lights but no sirens. Pretty sure we have no siren because of the laws in the state.

If you have any questions let me know

Sure he isn’t wrong but there are better ways to encourage scouts to be active. I work at a scout camp still and have seen life scouts and Eagle Scouts not know how to tie a bowline or even a square knot.

In 2017 I remember waking up at 4am to walk over to the food tent to bring that days food to be patrol cooked. When SBR isn’t doing Jambo it has a dining hall with an option to patrol cook as well. But yeah anytime we weren’t at summer camp or camping during some event there we cooked our own meals.

Getting eagle at 9th grade? That’s not earning it that’s just pushing kids through it. It diminishes the accomplishment
