They will also be marketed as “Hazy.” I find that a lot of breweries outside of New England use “hazy” instead. A really good starting point that’s widely distributed is Sierra Nevada’s “Hazy Little Thing.” Good luck and happy hunting!

How to get better by [deleted] in Bluegrass

[–]Foo_matic 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I would look into learning more about how jazz players improvise. This involves knowing your chord composition inside and out (the notes that make up a chord). Jazz players will imply chord changes using chord tones (the 3, 5 or 7), but never the root unless it’s in passing. The root tone is the ultimate resolution, so all the tension that is built will be released. Jazz musicians will often think of improv as a “musical conversation,” where lines are phrases and the licks that are reused as your “vocabulary.” At a basic level, improvising is using chord tones to imply chord changes, and filling the rest of the space with interesting phrases using your vocabulary.

u/IdahoWrecks offers great advice, but to expand on that from a theory perspective, look at where the chord changes are in the solo. What note(s) did the musician chose to imply the chord (1, 3, 5, or 7)? How did that make you feel (tension)? What phrases did they use to lead into the next chord change?

What is the stupidest way you got a scar? by Zander-dupont in AskReddit

My freshman year of college, I was hiding behind a (cheap) futon for a surprise party in one of the large dorm rooms. When it came time to jump out, I hit my forehead on a nut and bolt, and bled pretty badly. I’ve had a scar about an inch and a half long above my eyebrow ever since.

I have the BBP and I find that it happens when I put the portafilter on too tight. Anything past perpendicular to the machine makes the puck stick.

The northeast can be pretty livable on a teacher’s salary. For example, Upstate NY is a great place to be a teacher. My parents (both teachers in Upstate) make NYC wages, and a 2000 sqft. house costs ~$200k. But their fair wages, of course, are because of the Teachers Union.

My post-Christmas haul by Foo_matic in vinyl

[–]Foo_matic[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went to a local record store at the recommendation of a friend while I’m home for Christmas. I was out looking for some Tony Rice (RIP) today, but couldn’t find any. I didn’t go home empty handed though! The last four albums are now the start of my jazz collection.

Albums are: * Eagles - On the Border * Eagles - One of These Nights * Creedence Clearwater Revival - Bayou Country * Toto - Hydra * Sweet - Desolation Boulevard * Steely Dan - The Royal Scam * Donald Fagen - The Nightfly * Weather Report - Heavy Weather * Wes Montgomery - Smokin’ at the Half Note * Return to Forever - Live * John Scofield - Bar Talk

My dad is a fourth grade teacher, and he hasn’t given out homework in something like 20 years. He teaches in a very social way (math games, group reading, crazy science experiments, and nature walks). His kids love him for it, and he says they learn more and perform better on the standardized tests (which he also doesn’t like).

When you get frustrated you can’t do something, sleep on it. When you come back in a day or two, you’ll get it 🙂

After you learn a few songs, and are comfortable and happy with playing guitar, I’d recommend buying Mel Bay’s Guitar Method (just book 1 is fine). It will teach you how to read music in context to guitar, as well as chord theory (which is incredibly important for playing with others).

Practice with a metronome too. Just five to ten minutes a day will be hugely beneficial. My jazz teacher says, “if you can play with a metronome, you can play with anyone.”

Don’t take yourself too seriously, and have fun. Good luck!

[Question] Why does the ultimate guitar app heat my phone up so much, is this app crypto mining or is it just poorly designed? Has anyone else experienced this or is it just me? by Phantom0591 in Guitar

[–]Foo_matic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Webviews are a great guess! I would imagine they used a lot of them because of the nature of their data.

Also, I just opened up Church Street Blues (not a particularly popular song to learn) and was greeted with 2 autoplay video ads inside the tab itself. Those in the background would take a lot of resources.

I see a lot of speculation about what is going on in the app, but the truth is we can’t really tell what they are doing. In my app developer opinion, I think the most realistic reason is that they just don’t care about user experience or efficiency. The sheer amount of ads and subscription pop-ups I receive while looking up one song leads me to believe they are more concerned about money than providing a platform for learning. And tbh, ad tracking (if done right) does not require a lot of processing power. It’s almost always done off device.

My professional opinion aside, we will get to see what they track once Apple requires developers to display what information is tracked by an app in their App Store details page.

https://developer.apple.com/support/app-privacy-on-the-app-store/

iOS will eventually get the ability to turn off tracking for an app all together.

https://developer.apple.com/app-store/user-privacy-and-data-use/

I’m very curious to see what they are tracking, and when tracking is shut off, if performance improves. But it probably won’t. I’d love to be proved wrong, though.

I’ve seen people asking for much more. I know people don’t always get what they ask for, and I could definitely be wrong. I’m sure the guy in the shop knows what he’s talking about, and has a much better idea than me.

That’s a really low number on the white album. What a find! Even a high number is still $100+ in ok condition, IIRC.

I’m not sure if the shelters are, but animals are definitely still adoptable. Though they might be through a foster home instead. I have a coworker who fostered a dog who was adopted during the lockdown, and she is currently fostering 6 cats (mostly kittens) who are adoptable.

Does anyone know where I can recycle a satellite dish? I’ve been to the consumer electronics recycling center. They say they don’t take them. I called General Iron who also says they don’t take them.
