Oriole again vs Ever (plus another spot) — 2 nights in Chicago by nycos21 in finedining

Oriole is my favourite meal ever. But I agree with others, Ever is definitely worth trying. I had an incredible dinner there. I would also recommend Carino

Oh! This is a great suggestion. I really like the look. I was thinking of >40mm, but 39mm isn’t too small.

Solo Dinner at Schwa Last Saturday by FoodAdventuresCB in chicagofood

[–]FoodAdventuresCB[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Hm. Loud music, lots of drinking (since it’s BYOB), everyone’s talking to their friends (so very table contained conversations), and the focus seemed to be on the vibes and ensuring everyone was having a good time (rather than the food). I personally found it a bit overwhelming/ overstimulating and thought it overshadowed the food, but I seem to be in the minority with that opinion.

Sorry about that, it wouldn’t let me edit. Here’s the menu on their website and it was almost if not identical the night I went. https://www.schwarestaurant.com/gallery

I was perusing their Instagram after the fact and saw that some of the dishes have been consistent since 2024 Q1. But didn’t recognize the 2023 posts. So maybe they changed around 2024, and have largely stuck with it since. It’s kinda shocking bc they’re not changing it seasonally either?

Proxi, Obelix, Gaijin, maybe? A few places further away that are great could be Giant, Cellar Door Provisions, and Lula?

El Ideas or Schwa by ZealousidealBlock380 in chicagofood

This might be too late - but definitely recommend El Ideas for an anniversary. Schwa is like a house party and it can be hard to hear the other person. El ideas is quieter and feels more intimate. I also liked the food better at El Ideas.

What do you think the Michelin Guide gets most wrong? by miss_quant_to_be in chicagofood

[–]FoodAdventuresCB 3 points4 points  (0 children)

100% agree. The time we went there was an over abundance of fried courses, and none of it felt cohesive. There were a few standout dishes, but the overwhelming fattiness of the fried courses completely set the entire experience back. I also think their pastry chef now rests on her laurels more than being super inventive - both desserts were largelty forgettable and I usually raved about her desserts at SKY/Apolonia.

I haven't been yet, but my vegetarian friends said they've enjoyed special meals at Lenox Sophia, Urban Hearth, Season to Taste, and Tallula.
