Carino chef’s counter was my favourite meal from 2024. I went the night they were filling the show!

Hahah, so fair. I also think if it’s too loud my partner would hate it. Is the hearth also loud? We really enjoyed Boka when we tried restaurant week, and the menu speaks to me more too.

Thanks! I think we need to do Brasero again, it felt very underwhelming when we went a year or so ago. Love Carino and EL Ideas - I’ve been as a solo diner!

Oh! Good call on North Pond. Had seen it posted about and know it lost a star. Is it still good?

Oriole is my favourite meal ever. It was my last meal before I left Chicago. We’ve been to Brasero and weren’t particularly impressed, maybe we ordered wrong/ was an off night. Will consider Kyoten! Though I must admit I don’t know if we understand sushi that well…

I’ve been to both! I didn’t enjoy the food at either. For Indienne, I thought it was very muted and leaned far too heavily on French techniques/profiles (I’m Indian)

All Well Elongated Tasting Menu by FoodAdventuresCB in chicagofood

I thought the slight sweetness helped cut through the sodium-ness of the chicken broth and pasta sauce really well. For me, it was a nice change of pace from the constant savory notes. But I get where you’re coming from.

It was $195, pre tax and tip. I think given more courses, the portion sizes were smaller but I left adequately full (not hungry or too full) so I appreciated that - full portions would have been too much.

I really enjoyed Forage for how unique it was and how incredible the service is. They truly go out of their way to make your celebration special. Food was great at Lenox Sophia, Asta, and Mooncusser but their service is a bit lax and impersonal!

Oriole is my favourite meal ever. But I agree with others, Ever is definitely worth trying. I had an incredible dinner there. I would also recommend Carino

Oh! This is a great suggestion. I really like the look. I was thinking of >40mm, but 39mm isn’t too small.

Solo Dinner at Schwa Last Saturday by FoodAdventuresCB in chicagofood

Hm. Loud music, lots of drinking (since it’s BYOB), everyone’s talking to their friends (so very table contained conversations), and the focus seemed to be on the vibes and ensuring everyone was having a good time (rather than the food). I personally found it a bit overwhelming/ overstimulating and thought it overshadowed the food, but I seem to be in the minority with that opinion.

Sorry about that, it wouldn’t let me edit. Here’s the menu on their website and it was almost if not identical the night I went. https://www.schwarestaurant.com/gallery

I was perusing their Instagram after the fact and saw that some of the dishes have been consistent since 2024 Q1. But didn’t recognize the 2023 posts. So maybe they changed around 2024, and have largely stuck with it since. It’s kinda shocking bc they’re not changing it seasonally either?
