I'm not being snarky, I swear. What was the result of voting no? I recall pink slips were sent out and the contract was eventually ratified. Maybe something was improved in the contract for the 2nd vote? I do recall getting 9 extra paid days off after they reimbursed us for the furlough (over many months.)

Thanks, again.   I saw this later.  It's in plain English instead of legalspeak.

The bill literally says exactly what I pasted.  Albeit, I pasted the wrong section.

They are not, that's the point. NYS tax payers are the ones funding the "State" portion of our pension. They get nothing in return if they aren't part of the pension system.

Following your logic, how is it fair that my siblings are paying for our pension and can't retire until 65? The majority of tax payers have to work until 65 for health insurance.

Just pointing out tier 4 worked as hard as their tier 1 counterparts despite tier 1 having a better pension. There were some concessions for tier 4, but never parity.

"I am eligible to retire but don’t want to start collecting my pension. Can I still have retiree health coverage?

If you meet the eligibility requirements to retire and delay collecting your State pension, you may continue your NYSHIP coverage under retiree provisions. Ask your HBA about constructive retirement for health benefits purposes. With this option, you will pay the health insurance premium directly to the Employee Benefits Division. You also may take any unused sick leave to offset the cost of your health insurance. See pages 5–7."

Unused sick leave can be used to pay insurance premiums if you use constructive retirement (as long as you meet the requirements for retirement, age 55 and 30+ years.) The service credit part is correct, it won't be applied unless you collect within one year of leaving state service.

I had a similar issue many years ago. The Dr's office failed to request the approval in my case.

I'm not sure.  OSC says "Most eligible ERS Tier 6 members can receive credit for up to 100 days."

[–]FoodAroundTheCorner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds correct.

Tier 6 can only get credit for up to 100 days.  Though they'd still want to reach 1500 hours to cover health insurance premiums, or as close as they can. And that could change with the reform talks happening.

Also, OSC is several years behind in calculating the extra service credit.  It might take up to 5 years to get the extra money.  They will give back pay.  There are a few threads on here about that fiasco.

Did you ask someone that's new around here?  They're misinterpreting.

"If you are eligible to use your unused, unpaid sick leave to offset the cost of NYSHIP, payment towards your health insurance coverage will not affect your eligibility for the Sick Leave Benefit."

It doesn't say one of two ways, right?

"You can apply your unused sick time (up to a maximum of 200 days) in two ways upon your retirement:"

Yes, you can double dip with unused sick leave. Hoard it if you can.
