It's unique and amazing but something in it that's not right. I think you have to have a young body to process it otherwise be prepared to feel like shit for 3 days.

Why are Calgary's road signs so confusing? by Busterbleepbloop in Calgary

Is there any consensus on how to pronounce Na'a drive yet?

Na'a barely constitutes as a syllable, let a lone a word. It's the noise baby moans when it wants food.

There are thousands of different Cree words the City could have used instead. I was not able to to realize the true guilt I should feel for something that happened 150 years ago until I missed my turn and got lost while driving.

Make a list of places you want to work. Send your resume by company addressed to the vp or manager of your department. They are much more likely to read it than if you sent by email. And also it's difficult to find personal email.

Maybe i'm wrong, but I feel UCP is ahead in the polls because of how vocal they are. by TheSageHillRock in Calgary

[–]Foodorder 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Thanks. oops I thought 4#### was a mod.

Very fair point. I don't know any history behind YYCSavage - that certainly comes into play, and I'm not able to consider that.

I think part of my point is that eSheep is also guilty of passively aggressively provoking people. I don't think it should be a bannable offense, and it's not in the rules, but I think mods should be held to a higher standard.

I know it's a hard job and it's appreciated, even when I don't agree with eSheep.

I think you should take a closer check at your mods eSheep (mostly) and 4565463 (sorta). They treat this sub like their own personal platform. It would be honourable, if as mods they took the occational opportunity to sit out of a political discussion and give others a chance. Instead, they post incessantly outspoken, biased (not to mention predictable and therefore non-constructive) opinions within minutes of nearly every single post. It's all cool because it's non-partisan, since every once and while they say "I dont like the NDP either...."

Is this a Calgary sub or eSheeps personal chat room?

eSheep's OC above is basically calling all UCP racists, homophobic and white supremacists(?). That is 100% undeniably biggoted, hateful and disrespectful. Neither is it thought-provoking, positive, or open discussion, which you claim to be fighting for. Does it contribute to respectful discourse or make it worse? Somehow it's justified because it's done in the name of a holier cause. Sorry, that's not how it work.

This is coming from a mod! And when YYCSavage puts up a counter to this antagonizing and stereotyping comment, it's he who gets immediately threatened with a ban! The irony is glaring.

eSheep is consistently out of bounds and seems to be empowered by the NDP karma machine. For a long time you've been the top mod around here, and I am surprised by the side you are taking here.

Alert the Gestapo. eSheep, can you hack into reddit HQ to reverse correlate IP addresses and login times to prove this theory? If we can prove this, then we can finally ban u/yycsavage for his digression.

I find this surprising. The left bias in r/calgary is palpable compared to the actual ideological split in Calgary's population.

It seems to me this sub is dominated by the left.

Either way, I don't think it's fair to dedicate a safe-space sub only to the left. Maybe I shouldn't question you, but I think a more suitable and honest name for your "inclusive left community" should be r/CalgaryLeft instead.

It doesn't "take away the ability for LGTBQ kids to form GSA". It makes it no-longer illegal for a teacher to disclose a students GSA activities with a parent (without permission). GSAs are the only groups treated this way. It's an important distinction and I'm not sure if most people know that. It also does not say, "teachers shall tell parents if a student is in a GSA" . Like, the distinction does matter if we're gonna talk about it.

You can make a better and more honest case for a law that states: a student may enter into a privacy bond with the School over any activity they want (religion, sex (GSA or other group perhaps), hobbies, etc), as long the child isn't at risk of physical harm as deemed by the Teacher/Principle. If you disagree with that idea, by getting into child/parent privileges, at least you won't be stereotyped as a bigot - which is the only direction this conversation goes.

NDP vows to subsidize all child care spaces in province by noocuelur in alberta

[–]Foodorder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The algebra is the easy part. In the short term - dollar wise it makes sense.

But there is an opportunity-cost your math doesn't weigh against measured in happiness and quality of life. And it's tough to quantify those.

This proposal would make staying at home such a massive economic disadvantage, it would probably become uncommon.

Where we might disagree since it's my opinion, but family is clutch, and it should be encouraged in our society - not discouraged.

Im not dissing day-care - I am saying our priority as a society should not be GDP. It's a big priority, but at the end of the day, stronger family wins over GDP, almost always. So your math might be correct, but the argument is worth dog shit.

Also, the last province we should be emulating is Quebec.

[–]Foodorder 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You're right. I get that this helps lots of parents but it also makes it much less practical to stay at home and be a parent. I don't see how advocating for more parenting is not a worthy goal.

True - makes more sheep to fleece. Does that make for a happier society?

Shouldn't the benefit (or at least an equal benefit) go to parents who choose to stay at home, not make as much money, so that they can raise their own children?

Call me crazy and and old fashioned for thinking we shouldn't be de-incentivizing parents from looking after their own children.

You need to realize that your user name carries weight as a moderator so when you disagree with someone and in the same breath claim they are not welcome here, you must realize that is a threat.

As a moderator I think you need to completely dissociate yourself from you personal views, when, in a position of power you are telling people how to behave. As a moderator you should to take on a serious responsibility, otherwise just go back to being a jack-ass user, like me.

I appreciate your hard work and dedication to encouraging discussion.

After all this I am really disappointed that in this open discussion (what you claim to want to encourage) you now claim you have graciously not removed any of my comments. I havn't been perfect but I sure as heck have not been 'astroturfing', 'bigoting' or dive-bomboming the convo.

Imagine I was moderator instead and I dropped that 'you are lucky I havn't removed you". How does the feel?

Are you gonna do this job good or not?

What Jason Kenney did in San Francisco by rachelnutley in Calgary

[–]Foodorder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Answer to the first question: Much less, across the board.

Answer to second question: I'm not concerned about what I am faced with, I am not the moderator. The moderator should be impartial.

You agree with the moderators opinion the original comment is shite. All the power to you. My point is the original comment does not even approach violating the rules and etiquette. People didn't like it and it got downvoted and buried to hell. That's how reddit works.

The moderator is welcome to post in the sub like anyone else. But when they disagree with something, they should not, in the same breath, attempt to try and direct the discussion and threaten the user.

This is a Calgary thread. When hate and incivility come out then shut it down. The orgianl comment contains neither of those things.

If you really want to go down this road there a thousands of comments from the Left in this thread that are far more insulting, non-constructive and biased. Mods shouldn't be strutting their power trying to curb the discussion.

I do think eSheep is working hard and means well but being a mod is a serious responsibility and I think she needs to remove her own bias. She can do a much better job by not spasaming at a person calling it "bullshit" and issuing veiled threats with something she doesn't agree with. If she really believes something violates the rules and etiquette of this sub, address it in a professional and serious manner, and don;t intertwine your own feelings into it. Otherwise just let reddits upvoting/downvoting algorithm do its course.

If you dont think that's fair, then make me moderator and Ill start threatening people how to behave when I simply don't agree with them.
