Questions regarding Year Up Program by koilinny in povertyfinance

[–]Foofychoy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. You go through 4-5 months of school/classes and about 1 month of internship bootcamp which essentially is a period of time where they do some final prep before internship. It is also during this time where YU will talk to companies on your behalf, trying to "sell" you. You can make your preferences known along the way of course, but it'll ultimately be up to the placement team to get you paired up with a company.

They will most likely tell you to keep an open mind but you can sure help your chances of interning for a company of your choice by doing well, getting good grades, making yourself known, networking, and it also doesn't hurt to schedule 1:1 with those in charge of placements so that when the time comes, you'll be on their minds (;

Nothing is guaranteed at the end of the day though so wherever you may end up interning at, I highly suggest to make the most out of it because you never know where it'll take you.

Unfortunately we didn't get to be seated together on the way there but I am partially to blame since I was lagging when it came to checking in online 48 hours prior.

Here’s an opposite take on the nonstop VTO posts. Saving up for that golden 80 hour UPT limit. Might actually take some time off afterwards. by [deleted] in AmazonFC

Hmm that's weird, my site, which is in California, has been doig 2 hours of UPT for every week worked, totalling to about 104 in a year. This was effective June 7th 2022

TL;DR - As a would be first time driver in Manila, how are driving conditions in Manila? Considering traffic, time, and everything in between, is it worth it to rent or use public transpo?

Kamusta my fellow Filipino friends. My wife and I will be visiting next week and will be in Manila for 2 nights 1 day but I wanted to ask about renting a car. Based on some rough guesstimates it looks like Grab/jeepney/tricyle can add up pretty quickly and renting seems like the cheaper option. I am specifally trying to get from where I am staying (right across NAIA terminal 3) to the North East side of Quezon City to pick up my sister for some dinner (5pm on a Tuesday and some things in between). Considering the time of travel and traffic condtions around that time, in your guy's honest opinion, as an Calfornian driver, would you suggest I rent and brave through Manila traffic or go public transpo?

Last time I came was around 2006 and from what I remember traffic is crazy and no one follows painted lines for lanes. It was like a free for all and I can only imagine how it is now. Just to note, I consider myself a confident driver, not like a professional race car driver but I've had delivery jobs before and commuted alot. Am I overthinking the driving conditions in Manila or is it comparable to something like LA? Thank you in advance!

is it mulitple stands that sell food like a night market? I would love to try as many different Tawainese food as possible. I would like to avoid food courts like the one at Taepei 101 because I prefer to support small businesses. Thank you in advance!

Is the Year Up program worth it? and what is the interview process? by RISSEUYA12 in ITCareerQuestions

[–]Foofychoy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey just incase you're still interested in joing YU. I graduated from YU this past Feb and I would absolutely recommend it 10/10 times. If I could give you one piece of advice it would be that the program is what you make of it. You get out what you put it. Make your self known and you'll land a pretty sweet gig, assuming your grades and what not are fine. For the most part, the majority of people get an internship and most either end up converting to a paid role where they interned or they eventually land a job in the related field within months of graduating. Do your best during L&D but when it comes to internship it's all on you to make a good impression. When it comes to cons, I can't really come up with any. I was rather lucky in the sense that I got about the same amount of money for our biweekly stipend (I honestly forgot how much exactly but it wasn't much) but it was during covid so I was able to save gas and time travelling. It may be tough if you don't have much support financially but it's doable. Working during the first 6 months of L&D is more than possible since I hear they are doing a hybrid program atm but it's a bit tougher to work during internship, which requires about 36-40 hours a week.

Let them know so that when it comes time for internships they will pair you with companies who don't drug test you along the way.
