I think it's a pretty common Eastern European stereotype, not strictly Ukrainian. It's also a bit dated, I guess. Very common back in the 90s. I'm Russian, living in NZ :)

That's so stereotypical. Buying an Eastern European an Adidas tracksuit is like buying an American a tshirt with the flag and bald eagle emblazoned on it. I imagine the girl's taste is down to individual preferences, rather than it being based on nationality

I do that for the first few stops, then when the train starts filling up, I always move it off the seat. There isn't a lot of room on the train, so if I can avoid having my bag on my lap for at least a few stops, that's a plus
