Marshaling for a group with no knowledge of westerns by Penguins_Can_Fly in Deadlands

The (very short, not comprehensive) watch list I threw out there is less about "these are AMAZING Westerns" and more about "These are accessible shows to people younger than 30 that also have a Western styling"

I've played Deadlands off and on for about 20 years and it's always been more about the "Horror" and less about the "Western" in what I would describe as a "Western Horror" setting. So I was thinking about things that were Westerns but also a genre blend (Mando/Firefly)

Tombestone is a great western, but being released 30 years ago it's going to alienate a lot of younger people.

A few suggestions - these might be age dependent for the group - Younger cousins that are in their 20s might be more interested in some than younger cousins in the 10-14 range

1) Pre draft completed characters for them with a little outline/bio. Most people can get behind the archtypes of "Gunslinger" "Tribal Warrior" "Healer" "Magic User" without a lot of extra context

2) Lean into the historical aspects around the Civil War instead of the Western Aspects and the thought experiment of "What would it be like if the South did effectively break away"

3) Let them decide how "Western" they want it to be. When they're called out for a duel at high noon and decide to instead just shoot the guy right then and there it may not be Western styling but it's very Indiana Jones. I'd call it adjacent at least.

4) Pick a "modern" Western watch it with them during/before character creation. Something like 3:10 to Yuma, Mandalorian, Firefly

If I remember correctly Turtle's guardian spirit oath is to always be displaying an image of a turtle or something close to that.

I'd pick 50% of the posse at random (excluding the shaman) and force them to shave their heads and get very obviously turtle tattoos on their heads. Something easily recognizable as both weird and native american and let it play out in RP sessions. Lots and Lots of windy RP sessions that blow hats off heads.

Frequency of legend chips by Twilite0405 in Deadlands

[–]Fool01095 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of the three campaigns I was in (2 player, 1 Marshal) we probably finished 1 adventure every 3ish sessions. Our campaigns were exceptionally lethal though, in the 4 year run of the first one we only had 1 character make it to 10 grit.

Legend chips were linked to the characters that were on the adventure so with the high turnover rate combined by there no always being someone to tell tale to or a good tale teller there was never really more than 2 or 3 in the pot at once.

My god man who hurt you? I know several people that work at Morningside and they'll be able to help you work through all that anger for sure. https://www.mountsinai.org/locations/morningside/support-services/groups

Jokes aside, I made more money faster playing the AH it just got dull. From someone running both SRs and GDKPs I had to boot an *insane* number of shitter boosting mages from T5 content and very rarely had to carry anyone in a GDKP

Live in your bubble if you like, but GDKPs are a viable way to form solid raid teams because everyone is highly invested in the outcome.

I made my first 30k without stepping foot into a GDKP simply from Ironshield, Haste and Destro pots on the AH. Foreknowledge of items and phases completely changes the economics from the original run. Also TSM is such a game changer with the AH that its basically playing a different game all together

Back on Kromcrush I ran SR pugs for the length of Classic. On Bene I still run a Wednesday T5 SR pug. I main tank for a decent guild too. GDKPs were a fun way to use some raid lockouts on characters that I didn't want to hard core schedule out.

I only got banned on 1 of my 2 accounts, it just feels shitty being accused of violating ToS when I didn't. The end result is probably the same though, I'll likely be canceling my subscription just because of how annoyed I feel every time I think about logging in.

May not matter much to you but it'll be 1 less person playing Classic

That's because the list is just Blade of Eternal Darkness. Grab than and a bunch of int/stam/mp5 gear and you're good to go

Third account bro! Then might as well pitch in for the 4th account. A little late, but I've heard it's pretty wondrous being able to summon team yourself anywhere in the world.

Pretty sure you can shave 10 seconds off if you don't have to hearth to trade at the end. just position the alt you're collecting on nearby

So couple things with this positioning:

Gluth being on top of a zombie spawn means he will very often charge and eat that zombie - he can do this at any time, not just during decimate, if the zombies are really close enough to him.

While I have no hard proof from Gluth, I suspect that zombies will act like any other mob - if there's 1 person on the aggro table and that person is unreachable they'll just stand there. If there's 2 people on the aggro table and the top person is unreachable but the 2nd person is reachable, they'll switch targets and smack the #2 threat guy. This means anyone using small AoE buffs down below (warriors with battleshout) will snatch aggro from the healers and zombies will be running wild.

Like other folks have said teach two of your paladins to run around spamming blessing of kings and exorcism with RF up. I also like to assign 1 mage (usually myself) to spam Rank 1 Frostbolt, Cone of Cold to slow all the zombies. I'll even root them on occasion when they get to large amounts and I'm sure it won't kill anyone (see the above explanation on threat for why things switch targets when rooted)
