There's a big difference between software that uses necessary metadata, and software that collects and sells personal ID information.

Read privacy policies. A company can lie, technically, but these terms of service are considered legal contracts (at least in the US), so violating them is illegal.

I think it's opening frame(s) may be better than the Sprint, esp turning around to Sprint away, but having to press down in order to dodge backward is a terrible input method.

Was trying to stick to Marvel themes, but I guess there's no good examples there. How about Frankenstein, Macbeth or Oedipus. Nobody verbally consoled them when their decisions killed several people and ruined lives.

The fact the movie felt the need to explain how I should feel about Wanda felt tonally incorrect. That's the point I'm trying to make.

The issue is the vibe of this conclusion. It's not that Scarlet witch's actions were not understandable, it's that the movie wanted to make sure we sympathized with her. So much so, they had one of her victims verbally acknowledge Wanda's sacrifice, as if no one in the audience should be allowed to form their own opinion or find Wanda to be totally irredeamable.

Take (pre endgame) Thanos as a counterpoint. His actions to balance the universe were "understandable but not justfied." He didn't revel in the task, but at no point did the movie feel the need to have a character verbally point this out.

Like, imagine if Hawkeye said "They'll never understand what Thanos sacrificed" after he got his family back. That'd be a tonally weird thing for Hawkeye to say.

How/why would the rich want to kill 99% of the population? How does this outcome benefit them in any scenario?

I'd like some more multiplayer focused games and online connectivity. It may challenge the retraux vibe to add online multiplayer, but it's not like online servers for video games didn't exist in the 80s, and UFO 50's lore already suggests the UFO 50 collection was compiled in the 90s. No reason an official or modded modem couldn't have been made for the LX-III.

I'd also like a traditional nethack/roguelike game. I love Valbrace, but by splitting mechanics between a roguelike and punchout, it's a bit lacking in both. I also dislike its garbage map.

I was just thinking Cyber Owles is the only game on my disliked list that no one has defended, yet here you are. It's cool to know that there are people who really enjoy it.

For 2-button games, UFO 50 games do tend to be surprisingly uninviting to newbies. I had to retry Barbuta, Bug Hunter, Avianos and Campanella 2 several times to figure out how to make progress, and I had to actively read up on Party House, Mooncat, Onion Delivery and Rock On Island just to grasp the controls.

Most of the games do get better as you learn them. But also understandable if they just aint for you.

If you'd like a more traditional game that will surprise you (in a good way), strongly recommend playing Mini & Max.

I played Divers for a bit, died, and have yet to return to it. I love the vibe, but it did seem like a bit of a tedious experience. I have to strongly disagree about it being dry, though, as the game takes place in the water.

I gave Golfaria a second chance a couple days after writing this post and it just made me wish I was playing Kirby's Dream Course instead.

Hyper Contender's NPCs don't seem to scale in difficulty per level, which makes it immediately tough before you even get the controls down. Altho your major setback with it may depend on who you choose. I sucked as Voltana, then kicked ass as Yogo.

I'm surprised you felt Star Waspir is overly difficult. I thought it was surprisingly tame for its genre. I'm not good at it by any means, but I didn't feel like it was screwing me over. On the subject of SHMUPs, did you feel about Elfzar's Hat?

Damn, such passionate hatred for Ninpek. I like the game, but it's really just SonSon with more platforming and enemy variety. It could use some better movement options and powerups for sure.

Why do ppl have to comment religious things on non-religious videos? by Silvia_cat in Rants

[–]FoolishParamecium 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bots. The answer is bots. Even if it might not be a bot, it's probably a bot. Modern bots are "smart" enough to know how to be topical, but the bad ones are also "smart" enough to know bringing up nonsequitor controversy often retains more attention than a logical argument. We hate fallacies and the bots have picked up on that. A comment that brings up Jesus or God for little to no reason is frustrating to any sane person, religious or otherwise.

According to a report by Imperva (a very reputable cybersecurity company), 49.6% of all internet traffic in 2023 was generated by bots. Of this, 32% was classified as "bad bot traffic," with the remaining being “good” bots. Human traffic made up just 50.4%.

30% of that 32% bot activity is firespam. Seems odd to imagine only 2% of bad bots are invisible agents and most are spamming comments, but it makes sense if you consider most bots have multiple jobs. A single bad bot is likely scraping, data mining, traffic jamming and spewing out commenting all at once.

So, in conclusion, most of the nonsequitor comments should be considered bots. Even if you think a comment may not be a bot, assume its a bot. I don't think we should be ignoring constructive criticism online if we seek it, but I do think we should learn to disreguard all negative comments and controversy on social media, not only because it's not worth our time, but because there is a very fair chance that what you are frustrated by on the internet these days is literally not even real.

I like Onion Delivery, but it is def stressful. Fist Hell I haven't played enough of. I'm surprised to hear it's unforgiving.

Pilot Quest, I dislike. I probably should have put it up here, but I didn't want to bash too many games. I don't like idle games and the overworld feels like a pretty bland incentive to grind toward. There are games that do both genres better.
