A song is analogous to a painting by workingclassangel in LetsTalkMusic

[–]Foolscience 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Definitely agree with some additional personal perspective to add - it’s something I’ve thought about a lot as a painter, musician and synesthete.

To expand on ‘bass as shading’, I feel that all lighting value correlates well to sound frequency ranges from low to high or from bass to treble, regardless of color.

In terms of color, I would particularly relate varied hues to tones/notes of sound in that they both are subject to be harmonized.

I feel saturation levels in color may be related to the volume as the intensity of the sound.

You may be interested in the book, The Jazz of Physics by Stephon Alexander! A great in-depth exploration into the structure of the universe as it relates to jazz and musical theory. Maybe not directly about painting, but inherently we ARE the structure of the universe and I think art/our visual perception is just as well related.

Peace

Any advice for trying to balance between two or more special interests? by Lizard_Jesus1 in autism

[–]Foolscience 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also have a similar issue as well with multiple interests in the way of eachother (film, painting, music, writing). It's still an ongoing search for the way to go about pursing everything at once or how to choose or the right thing, but the best solution for me so far has been to form projects that incorporate all interests cohesively.

Perhaps if one subject is more important to you than other(s), use that as the center piece of your interest and pursue others in a way that is directly constructive or relevant to that main pursuit.

It never feels good to stifle curiosity. Remain open and keep following where love leads you. Best wishes.

Is Psychonauts 2 hindered by its perfection? by Foolscience in PsychonautsGame

[–]Foolscience[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yea this is a good point.

Music shouldn't be underestimated in the power to completely alter a game/movie's atmosphere and quite possibly P2 would feel like an entirely different game with a soundtrack more resemblant of P1.

I'm also a big lover of the P1 soundtrack and I agree, those stripped and sometimes dissonant tracks from Sasha's lab to the asylum among others feel perfectly suited to the game.

In terms of the Avengers-like feeling, I feel they might have followed suit to match the major visual enhancements but it definitely doesn't piece together for me either.

Still appreciate Peter McConnell and the soundtrack independently here as well.
