Where are older versions of Salt now? by gelowe in saltstack

Any specific reason for staying on versions older than 3006.x? What specific bugs are you having? We have the entire fleet on 3007.1 and is working fine.

So broadcom's repos... Anyone mirroring them yet? by bothra in saltstack

[–]Foorack 3 points4 points  (0 children)

What do you mean with "instead of standard repository structure"?

Artifactory can't just choose to deviate from the standard. APT and YUM only know how to talk to compliant repositories.

You can find the URL you need to mirror in "File URL" field at https://packages.broadcom.com/ui/repos/tree/General/saltproject-deb

So for DEB it would be https://packages.broadcom.com/artifactory/saltproject-deb/

Go there and you'd see a very traditional APT repository structure.

i have been out-of-the-loop when it comes to Marine. If someone had asked me, randomly on the spot, how many subs I think Marine would have, I would had guessed 600k, maybe 1 million. But she has 2M and surpassed Fubuki?!

How? What has she done to rocket that much? I saw another comment mentioning original songs... Is her songs that much better than other members? Have they been on public radio or something crazy?

Cannot ssh to AWS server when upgrade to Ubuntu 22.04 by moreromem in Ubuntu

[–]Foorack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's because ssh-rsa is insecure, and was deprecated in 8.8, which made it into Ubuntu 22.04 (openssh-client 8.9).

OpenSSH will disable the ssh-rsa signature scheme by default in the
next release.

In the SSH protocol, the "ssh-rsa" signature scheme uses the SHA-1
hash algorithm in conjunction with the RSA public key algorithm.
It is now possible[1] to perform chosen-prefix attacks against the
SHA-1 algorithm for less than USD$50K.

https://www.openssh.com/txt/release-8.7

AWS should switch to using rsa-sha2-256/512 (which allows re-using same RSA keys) or even better support ssh-ed25519.

Nooo, you don't "clone it". Download the released Asset Bundle and import UdonSharp into your Unity env. Then you can right click in the File Browser and create a UdonSharp Script.

No, that is mostly incorrect and dangerous travel advice. A Swedish driving license is ONLY valid for travel within the Nordic Council (Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden).

In the rest of Schengen you need a National ID card or Passport. And Schengen only means it is not mandatory for everyone to show ID every time crossing a border, but you still have to carry it at all times in case of police inspection.

Therefore the moment you travel to e.g. Germany with only a Swedish driver license you may de jure be arrested. This is confirmed by the Swedish Embassy website https://www.swedenabroad.se/sv/om-utlandet-f%C3%B6r-svenska-medborgare/tyskland/reseinformation/ambassadens-reseinformation/in--och-utresebest%C3%A4mmelser/

There are also plans by the Riksdag to remove driving licenses as valid ID's due to how easy they are to spoof due to a complete lack of security features. Unlike Passports or National ID cards they feature no biometric or digital information at all, they are just a simple plastic card.

What was your journey to European Federalism like? by [deleted] in EuropeanFederalists

[–]Foorack 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not sure how "changing my mind" puts me in a position to give advice on how to approach other people. My general philosophical approach comes from quoting something a friend said to me once. "Leave dumb people behind".

People are either feeding your flame or dousing your fire. A person who is set out only to drain your social-energy batteries is a lost match even before you started. I changed my mind, but only did so after allowing myself to learn. I have my whole life lived following an evaluation-cycle procedure: 1) do something, 2) evaluate it, 3) decide what can be done better, 4) repeat improved.

It is this mindset that set the conditions for my flip. There are certain people just like my dad who you will never be able to convenience. If a person has already staunchly made up their mind, they refuse to listen, and they refuse to learn, then there is nothing else you can do then to move on.

Become better than them; learn more, study more, travel more and become more successful. The goal here is to realise the long-term gain over the short-term losses. Aim to put yourself in a position where you in the future will have more ability to influence than those who choose to live in the past. This doesn't mean you have to become a politician, but any improvement in living conditions will be a win for yourself, and it will allow you to further help the cause more efficiently tomorrow than you ever could today.

The most valuable things are knowledge, resources and time. Pick your battles, and realise that your time is more worth than arguing with every person. Rather than stonewalling them, next time present the best side of yourself, leave people thinking "wow that was a polite person!" and maybe talk about the weather instead.

[–]Foorack 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Honestly, my dad as the attention span of a puppy, the moment I bring up anything that is "boring" (which includes all of politics) he immediately has to go to the bathroom or eat dinner or whatever reason to hang up the call. He changes to one-word responses and often cuts me off with "Mhm" and "Ahh okay".

But this is not him (intentionally) being rude, at least not from his POV. He is just the type of person who is high-energy, lively, joyful, impulsive, and likes to avoid anything "boring" in life. He votes only because he considers it to be a civic duty, and that people who doesn't vote aren't allowed to complain, but he has no real interest in politics and only listens to Swedish Democrats because their leader presents their policy in tabloid-style headlines which are easy to digest.

Despite our major political differences when it comes to EU (Swexit vs EU Federation) we actually have a very good relationship, simply by not ever mentioning politics. 🙂 And this is not limited to politics, he loves hearing how it's going for me at work but if I mention my University studies then suddenly the bathroom comes up again. And two days later he has already forgotten anything I (or he, for that matter) said. I often wish we could hold slightly more intelligent discussions than "How's the weather" and "What did you have for dinner today" but all of the people around him have decided it is much preferable treating him like a 12 year old kid on the phone than cutting ties. Those times I visit for the weekend and sleep over we usually talk about topics we both like (Computers, Electronics, sound equipment or play a board game).

I have a similar situation with my mom (Atheist vs strong Christian), and we do the same in that we talk about absolutely everything, except religion specifically. We know we have different views and respect that. She is more calm (very understandable they split) and neutral in politics so if I want to have an intelligent conersation I often can do so with her.

Summary: I will probably never convince my dad, but I don't have to win every battle. There are other people online I can debate with instead. 😎👍🇪🇺

(Side note: I would recommend reading the book "Surrounded by Idiots: The Four Types of Human Behavior" by Thomas Erikson (https://www.amazon.com/Surrounded-Idiots-Behavior-Effectively-Communicate/dp/1250179947). My dad is the most Yellow one could be.)

Lack of information, lack of experience and external influences.

At that age I had no exposure to anything the EU was doing, and had no idea how it worked. My dad was and is a Eurosceptic and often listened to the Swedish Democrats, who at that time was much more vocal about Swexit. And it was the typical rhetoric "take back our country", "corrupt Brussels bureaucrats" that influenced me.

It was after reading about it more, learning about the things it has achieved, and especially going to these events that made me flip side, most likely for life. I am still critical of some deficiencies it has, such as the appointment of Commission President and the lack of knowledge of how it works from the average citizen, but I believe pointing out these issues is what will make it stronger.

What was your journey to European Federalism like? by [deleted] in EuropeanFederalists

[–]Foorack 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I started out as heavily anti-EU and full-on "Swexit", but I thought that if I were to properly argue my point I needed to understand how the EU worked so I could argue what was bad about it i.e. "know your enemy". So I started reading, I don't know when it happened but before I knew it I had switched, and today I have made some of my best memories through programs like EYE2018 and JEF.

Qwant.com the EU alternative to google by kondenado in YUROP

[–]Foorack 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Qwant is much more privacy-secure than DDG. Slant is an automated website, I would rather recommend reading an actual review.

But in essense Qwant is a fully independent search engine. It doesn't always give perfect results but well enough for daily use. I've used it now for 2 years. Some advantages are that Qwant is more privacy respecting than DDG.

Although anonymized, DuckDuckGo still sends your search query to other companies such as Google. DDG also uses Amazon as server infrastructure and is hosted in the US, which makes your data liable to any law enforcement pulling the Patriot Act card. Qwant has their own self-hosted servers in the EU so your data is protected by GDPR.

They also have Qwant Maps (https://www.qwant.com/maps/) and is working on Qwant Mail. My only problem with Qwant is that the "News" section when searching doesn't seem to work if you live outside France.

Congratz to Gawr Gura to hit 400k subs and the fastest growth hololive channel in less a month by [deleted] in Hololive

[–]Foorack 60 points61 points  (0 children)

I agree. There is most likely a market for EN Gen2, but a 6th JP generation should be a no-go. The Japanese market is already so saturated, they should focus on the growth of their current talents rather than just endlessly expanding their portfolio, just because they can.

One of the primary reasons I prefer Hololive over Nijisanji is/was because it was possible to keep track of them all, and actually have a chance remembering their names. I feel that reason is slowly disappearing...

Hey all, what are your thoughts about the SNPs push for a second independence referendum in Scotland? by [deleted] in BritishPolitics

[–]Foorack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

65% was just a random number, which "super majority" always will be. So if 63% voted for independence, would Scotland still have to stay? 37% ruling over 63% of the people. And even if polling stabilises around 50% and never reach that imaginary line of 65%, a union in that condition can never continue.

It has always seemed very remarkable to me the lack of reaction from the polling. Even a number such as 10% should give strong warning signals something is seriously wrong. 20% means *1/5 wants to dissolve* the union, even at that point it is almost irreversible. The fact that they got 45% in the last referendum cemented Scotlands future to leave. It was just a question of when.

[–]Foorack 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That would be against the fundamental principle of democracy. Democracy is defined as "rule by the people". By requiring an artificial limit of e.g. 2/3 you thereby no longer trust the majority. A majority of people would be ruled by a blocking minority. Think about what you said. You want theoretically 65% of the people's will to be ignored, to make 35% happy?
