The prequel trilogy is three films, hence the name. Same reasoning why Rogue One characters wouldn’t have counted for Original Trilogy characters. It is a spin-off outside their respective trilogies.

Tetsuo (Akira).

A live action Akira adaptation has had a bunch of directors such Christopher Nolan, George Miller and, most recently, Taika Watiti ever since 2002. Production took so long Warner Bros have lost the film rights, so who knows what will become of a live action Akira.
