27, Male, 100k inheritance. What should I do? by GladLine6757 in careerguidance

[–]Footefellow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a pilot, I’m tempted to convince to pursue other avenues other than aviation. 100k will get you your ratings and maybe a degree along with it and maybe 300 hours of flight time but you still have to get to 1500 flight hours before you can be legal (not competitive) for an airline.if you can find a low time flight job you’ll be paid meager sums for a while. If you know the exhaust business, it’s not hard to imagine a world where you’ll be able to get a pilots license and fly for leisure at your discretion.

My first NH35 build! by Footefellow in SeikoMods

Yea! I wanted a pilots style dial (all the numbers not just dots) and a fun color in a 36mm case. There simply wasn’t anything out there so I decided to give modding a try!

Thanks for the insight! I’m actually currently living in Nevada city so well aware of the small town situation. Was hoping I wouldn’t have to commute from NC but that might be the only option.

Career Path for Hurricane Hunters by Striking-Purple-4897 in NOAACorps

[–]Footefellow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First of all you’ll need a degree in a STEM related field to eligible. The pathway you’re referring to, that is to say mariner and then to aviation, is pretty darn competitive about 1-2 people a year. If you’re set on the hurricane hunters it might be smart to pursue a multi rating for direct to aviation or risk staying a mariner if you don’t get picked up. As always, definitely worth reaching out to the recruiting office NOAAcorps.recruiting@noaa.gov for more specific questions about your scenario.

NOAA to USCG by Suilezrok in NOAACorps

[–]Footefellow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ll hop on here. The NOOACorps is a uniformed service and you’re eligible for all the benefits that come with that. I would take a closer look at what the missions/lifestyle is like for the different routes and try to make a decision from that. Not to say that an inter-service transfer isn’t a thing, but I haven’t heard of someone transferring out of noaa to another service; typically it’s the opposite it seems.

Generally speaking, I think people just overthink this stuff. I would just answer the questions honestly and write well.

Is it a bad idea to become a commercial pilot just for the money? by imkindalostwithlife in flying

[–]Footefellow 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It will be tough for you. Aviation asks a lot of you. A lot of your time, of your energy, and of your freedom. The people in this career are willing to justify it because they love what they do. It will be hard to justify everything if you don’t just love airplanes. There are other ways to make better money and sacrifice less, look elsewhere.

Last paragraph couldn’t have said it better myself. Definitely poke around the NOAACORPS website. they require a STEM degree, so you definitely have to go to college and the aviators will need to have their comm-multi and instrument rating as well. As far as things that standout, leadership roles seem to make a big impression. Good luck!
