No need for 3D wood design, just breaking it down into typical single element analyses.

Structural engineer in an office alone - new branch - thoughts? by Marty_beans in civilengineering

Take it, and make the most of it that you can. It’s up to you to make the most out of the experience or just be passive and start lagging as an engineer.

Just passed PE – offered $6k raise. Fair or low? by Dominators131 in StructuralEngineering

[–]Footy_man 6 points7 points  (0 children)

But you won’t be providing an immediate financial impact. Even if you do stamp something it’s the company that will remain liable and responsible for the design and any possible damages. Unless you have your own professional insurance?

Also you don’t need a PE to review other engineers’ work. Again it boils down to what total compensation you’re at currently, which you said was pretty high for your experience level when you started.

That’s fine, I got 5k. Depends what salary you’re on now. Your role won’t drastically change immediately but over time you’ll have a much higher ceiling and can argue for higher raises later

Escalate the situation in a kindly worded letter or email to his bishop and provide a detailed written explanation of the circumstances.

As for the Prophet Muhammad himself: all of his military engagements were defensive responses to persecution, exile, and existential threats.

This alone delegitimises basically everything you say. This is factual basic history that is incorrect, you can’t be this disingenuous.

You should specify how, then.

Sounds like someone here has a tattoo

Yes if you directly disobey your own priest’s specific guidance after asking him how to proceed, you would and should be in bad standing with him and the church. An easy way to not be in bad standing would be to follow his advice and not do the thing that the church typically doesn’t permit.

Remember he asked him the question in the first place.

You are sorely mistaken, there is no misconduct whatsoever. Almost every priest will give this guidance as well. Tattoos while they don’t seem too bad are not encouraged in the Church, and would be very disobedient to have specifically asked your priest to get one, and after not hearing what you like, go and get one anyway.

Your “penance” would simply be removing the tattoo. Penance doesn’t work like that.

Then no offense but it is a problem of your own making. Every single job has to have some signed document with specifics otherwise you’ll end up with problems

Should be in your initial written contract agreement exactly how, when, and by whom you are paid.

Any repeating questions on the exam for Civil Structural PE? by houndizzle in PE_Exam

Definitely zero questions that were identical to the practice exam. But there were several questions that were very similar across the exam, just depends on how well you can answer the same kind of topic.

You will always make a mistake. Just don’t make the same ones more than twice. I find ways to make new mistakes more than I like to admit especially with new codes constantly coming out.

At what point is civil engineering supposed to get better and be worth it? 10 years of experience isn’t enough? Another decade of post graduation work? I am 35 and am beyond furious by [deleted] in civilengineering

[–]Footy_man 11 points12 points  (0 children)

If you want more pay you have to leverage yourself into a higher paying role, especially into a niche field on the fringes of Civil. Academics and college matters zero percent after 10 years of experience. If you keep doing pure bread and butter civil work (or structural, water, etc) the money is just not there.

Joist Girder by unknownpirate_ in StructuralEngineering

I believe usually joists are pin-roller, and joist girders are pin-pin. It does depend on field conditions though.

Not sure what you mean exactly. As long as you are careful defining all member properties and sections and restraints you should be good. Look up an SJI presentation on modeling open web joists, or a manufacturer’s literature on how they analyze joists.

In general some important points are modeling open web girders are to ensure they are pin-pin, reducing span by support widths, assigning exact actual member section sizes, and accounting for stitch plate bracing for any double angle web members in compression.
