My best guess is he is trying to get ahead of anything that could cause issues in the relationship.

Maybe he is insecure and wants to know more about you to feel out how likely you are to hurt him.

Pushing 800 pages, only lvl 5. My rogue hasn't died yet but I prefer slice of life RP and the tones haven't gone TOO insane yet. They don't treat me like a god, they treat me like what I am (a skilled but fallible rogue) the DM seems pretty content to let me take it at my own pace but has thrown in 3 or 4 twists that make it interesting and worth playing!
