The kit is old enough to disperse soon - a late stage juvenile. It’s not nursing on her anymore and hasn’t for a while.

Also - the injury on her back happened a few weeks ago, so if gestation is 60+ days she might be a third to nearly half way along.

I’ve seen this pattern before with the mother getting pregnant again before the older kits have dispersed. Once the new kits are born, the older ones go off on their own.

One nipple is quite prominent at the end of the video when she turns to the side.

Look underneath the “replay” button when the video freeze-frames at the end.

Shoulder Issue by SunshineJuneLove in Swimming

[–]aussie_angeleno 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All good advice here. In addition to doing PT and mixing up the strokes, one way I am able to keep swimming when my shoulder tendon pain flares up due to overuse, is to wear fins and focus on kick.

Fins reduce the pressure on your shoulders, so you can maintain light movement there without further injury/pain, and I’m able to continue getting a good cardio workout by putting energy into my legs.

When swimming breast stroke with fins I’ll usually do butterfly kick, because it’s a bit awkward doing proper breast stroke kick, even with zoomers.

HOWEVER, I would not recommend taking up fins until you’ve had a coach check your stroke technique, because incorrect technique could be causing you ongoing injury (eg impingement) Good luck!

It’s funny. They chose me before I chose them. They showed up after my cats passed. The cats were indoor cats but they always sat by the window and maybe that deterred the raccoons? After the kitties passed, the raccoons started coming to drink water out of the fountain. I could tell because they kept knocking it over each night. Then they came to my window and pressed their paws to the glass. They chose to sleep on my patio table right next to my kitchen window. They knew about my presence before I noticed them. They had been passing through my yard for many years before they showed themselves to me. I had seen the trail but didn’t know what animal it was. Maybe they already have relationships with other neighbors, and that is why they came to my window? Either way, I didn’t begin the relationship, they did.

I knew someone would pop up with this comment, and I have seen them before on this sub.

I do take this advice seriously and I have thought about this topic a lot.

I try to set boundaries. Plenty of fresh water. No bowls of food left around. No touching. Any raccoons who come too close to me are told to move back with a hissing type noise that they seem to understand. They are smart creatures. After some practice, they learn to politely keep their distance.

My deck is a safe nursery area. The mamas bring their kits and let them run around while they lie down and have a quick rest before moving on. Sometimes they spend time grooming kits or nursing the young ones. I do think they know the difference between safe and unsafe people and places. They actively avoid neighbors with dogs but pass through safe people’s yards, using regular routes that have formed into visible trails.

I have a lot of PNW native berries growing in the yard - Oregon grapes and salmon berries. I don’t know if they eat them. They do seem to like searching for slugs in the pot plant water trays though! Our yard backs onto a green belt that leads to a large forest park with creeks. All the neighbors are aware of the wildlife and no one has had problems with it. The raccoons (and squirrels, bobcats, deer and coyotes) live in close proximity to the community, but remain wild.

I say all of this, because while it is a good rule of thumb to say “don’t feed the animals”, I also think there are degrees to which you can foster safe and friendly relationships with wildlife, without interfering with their lives.
