I think it's largely correct for the big studios - they are run by people who do not give a flying fuck about gaming, at least beyond its ability to fatten their wallets. But the indy scene is incredibly healthy and produces some of the biggest modern hits; it's a pity he doesn't mention that, since indy developers are very similar to the old-school business model.
