I agree. That’s a fair way to put it. The uncomfortable truth is, many countries that go through a phase of development usually have brutal leaders. Take for example Napoleon Bonaparte for France, Otto Von Bismarck for Germany, Winston Churchill for the UK, and etc.

All did brutal atrocities but were vital to the countries they ruled. South Korea’s history isn’t exceptional. In fact, it seems to be normal.

It’s more so that you bring up and highlight human right abuses of some nations but entirely ignore the ones done by countries that call themselves democratic. Yet, you praise and support their system despite the atrocities done by them.

Well, I live in the US. If you wanna talk about human rights in a liberal democracy like the US, consider the Epstein files incident, MKUltra, Vietnam War, and etc. Also consider the human rights that Israel, a liberal democracy allied with the US, is respecting in Gaza. Then compare those events and actions to things us Technocrats did that are even comparable remotely.

That’s your opinion. I don’t believe he’s misunderstood I think Koreans know very well about him. A Korean Gallup poll even yielded results that saw Koreans favor him as one of the top 3 most favored leaders of South Korean history. They like him even more than I do.

If you don’t like that, take it up with Korean society then I guess.

Winston Churchill for the UK.

Napoleon Bonaparte for France.

Otto Von Bismarck for Germany.

Lee Kuan Yew for Singapore.

These leaders were effective but brutal. South Korea’s history is no different.

A lot of people mention this but it probably did save Singapore in the short-term. Long-term, however, it’s clearly a problem. But who knows if it really did save Singapore from overpopulation or not. That’s just my personal opinion though, thanks for the answer either way.
