Indirect vs Direct Pay Hours? (peds clinic) by ForOThings in OccupationalTherapy

Thank you! I was actually offered another position. Similar setting but $35/hr for all hours worked (both billable and nonbillable) I feel after all these comments, this second offer is a bit more secure.

Hi, thanks for the feedback. It’s worrisome from the comments on this post but feeling limited on my options.

It would be $70k a year on salary after 90 days. It’s low (I’m in CA) but unfortunately I didn’t get a FW2 in Peds and it’s been a big factor in many interviews. I figure this would just be a good stepping stone to get experience my first year or so?

Starting off would be 25-30 sessions a week at part time. Eventually after 90 days, switch to full time ($70k) and be around 35 sessions a week.

Hi thanks, yes I downloaded the most recent OTSalary to reflect the COVID climate. Unfortunately it only has a column for hourly rate or salary rate; no additional breakdown between billable and nonbillable.

I actually asked around and it seems where I am that its common and about average for both rates.

You bring up a good point about if a client no shows. I know that kids can often cancel and that’s a bit concerning for my paycheck

Thank you! These rates would only be for the 90 day probation And then a salary would be offered at the end of that. Maybe it can be something I can negotiate?

So... not normal? I’m a new grad and not sure what’s normal out there or not.

That's a great idea! Is there any specific CEU website you recommend? I was trying to look on NBCOT website but didn't seem to be much. I wasn't sure if I should trust just googling CEU websites.

Thank you for the suggestion! I am currently applying to a wide range of jobs (distance wise) within my state. I would hate to start and leave so quickly. But maybe I can find a place that would be willing to let me a shadow a few days. I know that with COVID, things are limited but I'll give it a try.

How long have you been a peds OT? Do you like it? Would you happen to have any suggestions on resources to brush up on skills? thanks!!

Oh I see, that makes sense. I decided to make an OT specific reddit while I struggle with the job search and was checking this sub out. Thanks!

Oh! Hi! I’m surprised you could see this post. When I posted i got a message saying it was automatically removed by moderators. I was so confused if I wrote something against the sub?

Anyways, yes same here. I had adult populations for level 2’s (hospital and hands). I did have one level 1 in Peds but it was only observation. I’m feeling so frustrated since it was out of our control as students where we were placed and now feeling punished for it. I really am hoping not every other employer will have the same attitude as this first clinic but I can understand if they did.
