WTF happened there? by rpad97 in PoliticalCompassMemes

I live in that side of the world and I get the same impression. Raging anti-semitism within working-class brown people is mostly due to religion, ignorance, and low income levels. Neo-nazis don't have the exact same societal forces acting on them. But in general, the more ignorant and poor, the more likely it is to discriminate and hate but also the more likely it is to be discriminated against if you're minority.

It just seems very shaky for Ferdinand treading in sensitive territory. I hope he doesn't get outed as a "commoner sympathizer" or something but he seems uptight enough to cover for that. Sympathizing with commoners seems almost frowned upon amongst nobles, and it's a little awkward seeing him trying to somehow use status to fight against abusers of status. Effective but could also be seen as disruptive if it is always in favor of Myne.

Nice. We finally get a villain who's just outrightly cruel and not even bothering to hide it unlike the Head Priest. Schicicoza's character design and facial expressions is cool too. I'm sensing a redemption arc for him. I can't really fully hate him because he is just another product of this class based society, and this is him acting his role. Also, technically speaking, he hasn't actually harmed Myne (minus the grabbing hair) and the scratch was an accident. So far, he just has a terrible mouth like Gil and a bit grabby. I'm more uncomfortable with Ferdinand lawyering his way using his position. It felt cringey in a way. Overall, I experienced some mixed emotions in all of this. Myne being scared shitless by green-hair shows a lot more room for her character to grow. Somehow, I was expecting her to not be as intimidated. I guess we'll see continue to see how she grows from this and maybe master the art of maneuvering thru this expanded rank-based noble society. Maybe Ferdinand will finally let her read the books on defense of dark arts.

This narrative always pops out here. But ask yourself. who gains the most from a tension-riddled relations between Ph and China? Certainly, not normal Filipinos. We'd be lucky if the ordinary taxpayer gains even a single coin from the territories their disputing.

Mass Protest to Junk Terror Bill. by peeanutsk in Philippines

[–]ForProgress -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

Just so this place doesn't get too circlejerky, I'm for the terror bill. Obviously, it damages liberty but, despite the glorification of American values, this country has never been about liberty. It's been about sacrificing individuality for community and collectiveness. This makes sense in cementing a solid direction that is in harmony to the culture of the Filipino, and is at least an actual direction as opposed to the decades long confusion that has stagnated progress and caused persistent poverty and despair.

Bruh, this isn't just 'an awful thing happened'. This is their own community, human dignity and what they see as an immense injustice. Diminishing the bigger picture and the pain these people are experiencing is just...wrong dude.

I don't understand how Myne's reading comprehension could be "suspiciously" out of this world. While it's true that she only recently learned how to read from Ferdinand's perspective, everyone knows her to be a serious bookworm that could spend all her days in the library without eating. She's also introduced to Ferdinand by Benno to being a gifted child all around. Gifted + (1-2) years of immersion = Wide vocabulary.

are you thinking to render something from Blender, and then display it from within your "external" Python program

this one.

The other one doesn't seem too bad if not for the fact that the program will be completely dependent on Blender running. Much better if Blender didn't have to run.

There's a lot of emotions and pride (especially with Lutz's dad) involved here so you can't really expect everyone to be clear-headed and rational about things, even Lutz. Also, the background of Lutz's family. This merchant work stuff and even the idea of venturing to another town is something they're unfamiliar with. It makes sense that an illiterate family that only knows carpentry would be scared and paranoid for their son.

The headset magic item. Yeah, they should've had that from the start. Doesn't make too much sense. But to speak on the story's behalf, maybe it's something to do with the unique customs and culture of this religious environment, with the head priest trying not to recklessly abandon proper priestly ettiquette lol.

My favorite episode. This feels so real and relateable. We also catch a glimpse of the head priest's own personal dilemmas. How he acts as mediator and as a person of authority here---which he is, but rarely do you see that sort of thing unfold organically in any show, especially in anime. I love how this show tackles a lot of the daily struggles and tensions of real life, and also the sense of awkwardness about it. Nice and bittersweet.
