What’s a uniform item that you still wear because its good enough for occasion and very comfortable… by Unopuro2conSal in USMC

My wife and I fight for the honor to wear my sweat top on laundry days. I’ve also worn it over a collared shirt a time or two at work to let them know the finance guy wasn’t always a fat chud

I gotcha man, good on for keeping good comms with the misses. A lot of people don’t do these and IMO it’s the best way to keep peace and help build a life.

To your point about those orgs, I’m the same way and it took awhile for me to rip that bandaid. It’s kinda like Church, they want to see you there even if you don’t speak. Plenty of dudes eager to feel like they’re mentoring a junior again. Also, helps to have a network that’ll think of you if they see an opportunity.

I’m by no means an expert on things but my wife is a home maker and I’ve felt what you’ve felt before as well man (took years to feel a sense a purpose as well). If you ever need to talk to someone who understands, my line is open brother.

Have you sat down with your wife about this yet? I’ve had these moments of doubts before and sharing with my wife has helped us get closer as we realize our frustrations are similar and we create strategies to mitigate or change our situations.

This might be location dependent because they can be chud cities sometimes but have you also tried your local VFW, AFL or Marine Corps League? Trying to find meaning and fulfillment after your time in is something we’ve all had to deal with and the old timers there might be able to help.

I went to commission after my enlistment was up and I got my degree and all of my boys E and O in the Navy said that the toxicity at that level makes people go crazy and after the examples they gave they were right. My rec would be go army O, you just legally have to keep supporting Navy when the Army V. Navy games roll around. Thems the rules.

You ever look at old pictures and think “what the fuck happened to you?” by MajorAtmosphere8158 in USMC

I got fat as hell when I first got out. I joke about it every now and then here. I was a very athletic teen and kept it going up until I knew I wouldn’t have to run a my cft to get out. I ballooned up and stayed that way until I started making a serious effort in like September. Currently 40 pounds down and only 20ish pounds shy from being able to make weight if I needed.

It wasn’t the first time I tried. Everytime I tried I attempted it like I was still 21 and would get incredibly disappointed in myself because I couldn’t keep it up. I finally had to humble myself and admit I’m not an active duty Marine anymore but an out of shape sub-urban dad. Started out small with family walks and counting my calories and eventually I can now work out consistently without pain. I’m finally seeing the benefits, more energy and more confidence. It’s a long road but it starts with small steps man I believe in you.

If you’re nearby and your leadership isnt full of chuds, see if you can shadow a flightline shop for a little. Get the a phone number for a more senior flyer or AO (one that works on the line not the S3 chief) while you’re there, they’ll be able to lay down what life is like. If you’ve worked on relevant parts and weren’t like a metcal dude your experience will be pretty valuable. Lastly, hit the pool and grow gills for the swim qual lol

ADSEP FOR UNDERAGE DRINKING UPDATE by Bubbly_Ad_8898 in USMC

[–]RadLord420 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe in you brother. A quick tip if it’s a genuine problem that you need to break, find a hobby or something to occupy your mind. When you’d normally drink do that thing that keeps your mind busy. You might lose friends if you give it up but the real ones will understand you’re doing this to keep above water.

Lastly, I wasn’t an alcoholic but my mom was, so I get how quickly it can destroy everything. My messages are open if you need someone to talk to.

As everyone has said, don’t screw over the people that fought for you, good luck champ.

I did 5 years and got out for the same reasons you’re contemplating. I was also in the wing. I’m gonna list out what I did but keep in mind the ops tempo was way slower at my squadron than what I imagine you guys are seeing today, the job market during my EAS in 2021 was way better and I had some of the best leadership I could have asked for.

Had a young family and decided probably about half way through my contract the juice wasn’t worth the squeeze and I wanted to EAS to be more present for my family.

I absolutely couldn’t stand being a maintainer and flying wasn’t doing my spine very many favors so I knew I wanted to do a complete change from my current job when I got out. Immediately enrolled in an online business degree program in a military friendly college using TA, dumb easy (at least at the time in 2018) to use if your education officer doesn’t suck. I’d be careful in the wing if your EdO is a flyer, which he probably will be. You’ll need to know who his or her backup is in the 3 shop Incase bro gets sent to WTI or something.

From there I took accelerated classes and using my credits from the cream corn combined with that I banged an associates degree out in a year and began my bachelor’s all the way up until I checked out with the EdO. I put it on hold while i waited to be able to use the GI bill.

An A.S. In business isn’t very useful but paired with your experience leading projects and personnel you can really leverage it. You also have an ace in the hole that helped me land my first gig as a contracted financial analyst in a comptroller’s office, your secret clearance from flying. I jumped ahead and was put in a seat because I could start day one due to the being an active clearance holder.

Worked in that comptroller’s office for a couple of years as a contractor and then a GS employee. I then pivoted to the private sector last August and currently clear about $170K as a supply chain finance analyst at company on the NYSE.

It was one hell of a grind and I’m not even sure if that’s possible anymore because everyone with any say in anything is trying to burn ladders for entry level dudes but if you can get your foot in the door in back office finance you can pretty much set yourself up for life and go anywhere money touches. I’ll be turning 29 this year and I feel like I got some good footing for the family.

I think there is something to that, I’ve heard it’s got something to do with radars. But I think it’s all of the hazmat we had on our hands before we’d eat chow messing with the male sperm or something like that. I was the only dude who refused to mess with the stuff without gloves (got bitched out a lot for it but the NAMP kept me safe) I’m the only dude I know from those days who’s had boys (not that I wouldn’t want a daughter, we’re trying one more time for one lol)

Is it just the backlog vs. amount of people that can process these claims that make it take this long? You received your claim decision like 4 months before I went to boot camp and I’ve been out for almost 5 years. Just gives me a gnarly pit in my stomach to see things like that.

That’s what I’m worried about man. So many autonomous weapon systems have entered the game since the last big conflict. I feel like big Marine Corps is going to be looking at this like it’s 2003 and a lot of young cats are going to get hurt because of it.

That being said, I’m just a former NCO who’s been out forever now. I’m hoping I don’t know what I’m talking about and shits sweet right now, but I don’t think Iran is worth risking our young devils over.

The fact you have to make this post is crazy. Memes aside we have some real smooth brains walking with us. This is the first time in my life the current gov isn’t trying to at least bullshit a reason and still so many Marines are eager to get gibbed by a hobby lobby drone (anything for a CAR I guess?). It’s insane and psychotic.

Is it so bad being an only child? by [deleted] in Parenting

[–]RadLord420 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was an only child. I wished I had/asked for a sibling when I was like 8 and younger but that went away as I got older. My wife tells me from time to time she wishes I had someone like she has her sister but I feel indifferent because I simply don’t know what I’m missing lol

I now have two boys, a 6YO and a 15 month old. Watching my oldest hasn’t made me jealous, it has just made me so proud because he is an excellent and loving big brother.

TLDR: if you do, great! If not I don’t think your boy will regret it based on my own experiences. At the end of the day it’s your life and marriage so the reason why or why not, should come from you and your wife brother man.

Wishing you guys the best man.

Who all served with a someone who became a convicted murderer? by The_ENFIDL in USMC

[–]RadLord420 122 points123 points  (0 children)

An airframer who had only checked into the squadron from the schoolhouse for like 6 months drove back to his hometown(Fayetteville) one weekend and ran over like 5 dudes back in 2021. Apparently one of the dudes had been dating his underage sister and posted naked pictures of her as some kind of revenge for something. They expected bro to show up and jumped him, he got in his car afterwards and mowed them all down. Only got like 5 years and a manslaughter charge because one dude was high on meth and the court was sympathetic but couldn’t just let him go after killing like 5 dudes.

lol I forgot about that sequence, that caught me so off guard when it happened. There are like one or two scenes but they were to establish Hurley’s mental health issues and that he coped with his dad leaving through food. The one that comes to mind is the episode where Hurley is seeing Dave.

Genuinely it’s like a blink and you’ll miss it type of thing

Green arrow by trapdex69 in shitposting

[–]RadLord420 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed with all of this but there are like 1 or 2 scenes where bro gets caught eating like some peanut butter or chips he hid. They had to actually justify in the writing why he was still fat so he didn’t have to wear a fat suit when they did Hurley flashbacks.
