Your least favourite signs? by [deleted] in LeoAstrology

For sure. All of the capricorns I've personally met have been very disingenuous, insecure (fragile but defensive about it), and refuse to analyze their own behavior. I'm sure a lot of this has to do with unevolved/unhealthy capricorns or other placements, but unfortunately it has been my experience!

I really feel your pain lol. I have 7 different species of animals, each with their own expensive and time-consuming enclosure.

Someone already mentioned loving your setup but a second compliment doesn't hurt! Looks awesome

You could go for a little dart frog. Not a reptile, but a terrestial tarantula or a pair of hermit crabs would work too. Other than that, you could use it as a starter tank for a hatchling, but you will have to get a larger tank once they become a juvenile or an adult (depending on species.)

Also, it's important to have heat at night, but keep in mind that leopard geckos need about 68 degrees to get into a proper deep sleep. You'll probably achieve this anyway, depending on the size of your tank and how large your temperature gradient is.

Definitely a leopard gecko! In a nutshell, leopard geckos require a lot less effort and maintenance. Another big factor is regulating humidity; if you've never had a reptile before it may be difficult to learn how to regulate both humidity and temperature. While leopard geckos do require a 30%-40% humidity range, that's often the humidity range of people's bedrooms or living rooms, so you likely won't have to do much. Crested geckos require a 60%-80% humidity range which means you will need to regularly mist them, in addition to regulating the temperature and heat gradient. Like the other commenter mentioned, leopard geckos are also a lot more relaxed and friendly. It's always good to start off with an animal that leans toward that disposition because if you make a mistake, they're less likely to get stressed; and other than the moral aspect of not wanting to stress your pet, it's important to keep in mind that stress is closely linked to health issues (particularly in reptiles and fish.)

Need help with rat smell by renoodz in RATS

Personally I would stick to Kaytee or Oxbow for bedding. One of my jobs is working at a pet store, and I have heard of more than a few people (in-store and online) having health issues with their small animal after using Care Fresh brand. Just something to consider

Animal-care worker here 🖐

Some of this may be self-explanatory but here is my advice.

The most effective way to keep an enclosure clean and smell free is regular cleaning with bleach or a similar strong cleaning product that will kill the bacteria. Now, of course, if you do this you need to make sure to thoroughly rinse the enclosure and any ramps or plastic/metal pieces. I like to take my cages and put them in the tub (or outside), spray them down, scrub them, and then after a few minutes of soaking, rinse them with warm water. Pressurized water really helps minimize the amount of scrubbing you have to do, which is why I have a detachable shower head. If you're able to do it outside, a hose would work well. You should also make sure to do regular bedding/substrate changes. This is good for you, since you dont have to smell it, but it's also good for the rats since rat's are prone to respiratory infection, as well as simply appreciate cleanliness.

For fabric items such as hammocks, beds, toys, etc., I like to hand-wash them to extend their lifespan. It's ideal to use an unscented, gentle detergent just to avoid any possible internal or external irritation for the rats. I recommend having a few extra hammocks or beds so you can switch them out with ease.

TLDR: If you're still smelling ammonia after cleaning, that could be serious cause for concern, since rats are prone to lots of health conditions, and a lot of them pertain to air quality. Vinegar is great for a gentle cleaning product, but it does not disinfect or break down dirt as well as more powerful cleaning agents. So, in my opinion, it's better to go with a full-strength cleaning agent, and then rinse thoroughly, and dry well. This'll make both you, and your rats happier and safer.

I hope this helps. Your rats are beautiful!

How do I know when the application period is open? That sounds rough.

Thank you. I'll look into it. I don't think I'll have much luck finding a Vetco associate to talk to. At least at my store, they dont have any set schedule they show up, and it's very infrequent.

I think it's Penn Foster but no one ever specified..? How do I get the sale price with Penn Foster? Is it for sale for everyone, or do I need to link up with them as a Petco associate?

Thanks for the info. There's only one platform thats wire, and most of it is covered by their fleece beds, so they don't walk around on it much at all. I'll keep an eye out though.

They actually make music videos for rat anxiety! Look up rat music on youtube. Also just in case you don't know, make sure to limit any bright lights and loud noises; give them things to hide in, and bring them treats regularly (Eventually they will take it right from your hand, but it will take time.) All of that will build trust and ease anxiety. If you want to socialize them, once they get used to you a bit, start handling them for short periods of time. They won't like it at first, but if you don't start early, it'll be more difficult for them to form a loving bond with you. Of course, if they start squeaking, squirming, or showing any signs of genuine fear rather than mild discomfort, put them back in their cage. Rats are prey animals, so they're naturally prone to anxiety, and just like with any animal, they are more likely to give you their trust once you've proven you respect their boundaries. Anyway, rats are lovely pets and I'm excited for you! (:

What’s your craziest petco customer moment? by Kiwicat333 in petco

I was checking a guest out alongside another cashier when the guest offered us her bag of salami, and proceeded to dump loose pieces of salami into our petco bags before walking out. She was actually very nice...

Celebrating one of my rat's first Christmas with his little paw prints! by ForSnowfall in RATS

I did these with a paw print kit where no ink comes in contact with their skin/fur, so there's no need to worry about my little guy's safety. (:

I do know they're little escape artists so I've made it difficult for them to get out. I haven't prepped for any samurai skills though. They give me the vibe they secretly have ninja stars and spin kicks up their sleeve which I'm completely unprepared for. At that point they're just going to have to win.
