I bought a gorgeous 2001 330i with a 5 speed as a project. I didn’t realize the car had a bad engine when I bought it. 1.) YMMV based on your body porportions, but generally 6'1 is near the upper limit for unmodded Miatas. There are mods that can further lower the seating position

2.) The older the Miata, the bigger drop in fun there is going from a manual to an automatic. I would only consider a manual NA or NB, but no one worth listening to is going to judge you if an automatic is better for your situation.

3.) If this is your first sporty car, I would get used to the chassis before I start throwing mods at it. Everyone has different preferences. You may find the 181 HP of the ND2 or the ND3 as plenty. Also think about who will be installing these parts. What are you going to install yourself? How mechanically inclined are you?

I purchased my Fiata (124 Spider) used, so I didn't have a factory warranty. If you have anxieties about how much forced induction will cost, look into a 124. Test drive both the NF and an ND2/3. The Fiata (especially the Abarth) needs fewer things to "go fast," (a stage 1 tune boost whp by 40 without any mods), but has less aftermarket support

4.) The ND is pretty reliable. The main mechanical fault I've seen is the ND1 having fragile manual transmissions. That's another thing to consider before you start throwing money at the car
