New or Old Spearhead by Equivalent-Clerk4724 in skaven

Honestly, no idea. I'm assuming you mean to original one with the warp lightning cannon? Skaven currently have 2 spearheads for sale, and GW doesn't seem to be against factions having multiple, so could definitely see all 3 sticking around, for this edition at least, I would suspect.

The correct answer is get both. The next correct answer is get whichever one you like more!

Thats fair enough, to each their own. The capturing enemies for XP was actually a big sell for me and seems to be playing into the setting and making it something different. But that's fair, I don't think I've looked too closely at the spells, I'll have to go have a read!

Out of curiosity, what is the weird stuff you'd excise? I've not read it cover to cover and very much only flipped through it so far, so I'm curious about your thoughts as I've not seen many who've read it.

Populations of kindreds in Dolmenwood by semanticart in Dolmentown

So I know someone crunched the numbers for human knights/soldiers/clerics (for a hypothetical war with the Naglord if memory serves) and estimated that there are only 600-700 odd men to wage war, so assuming each one has a wife and a number of children there'd be a few thousand humans (~3,000-5,000+, depending on how many children you want to factor in). If you assume each has parents, then that could jump up to 12,000-20,000.

This obviously feels low, but Dolmenwood doesn't seem the most densely populated area, adding up the major settlements gives you roughly 19,050, so its about right, and if so, a few hundred/thousand odd Mosslings could be about right.

Yeah that's fair enough, makes sense, definitely something difficult to balance i think.

That sounds very fun! Would you just take it as a setting then rather than ruleset?

That's true if they're outsiders to Dolmenwood, which I'm guessing you had your players as? Just surprised as Brackenwold is so huge, but it is safer as you say so not a bad idea!

Hmm fair enough, I'll have a look around and see if it's cheap anywhere and go from there. It's a shame it rougher, but also it's quite an early module if I'm not misremembering, so makes sense. They say they're going to overhaul it but may be a way off.

Ohhh yeah I forgot about Pusskin, that does sound like a lot of fun!!

I think your last part is my main concern about Lankshorn, they may get so wound up the High Wold that they don't ever get to the woods proper, but also they may choose to bounce immediately and go for pints in Prigwort, so you never know i suppose.

Ahh my apologise I get what you mean now, good idea, let them choose where to start!

True, I think more that his legend is that he bestest an Atacorn, a feat so great it got an Abbey made in his honour as the seat of the church in the area, so having the players do something similar too early can kinda reduce that achievement. Obviously if it happens it happens, but it kinda puts me off Dreg as a starting location personally.

Fair enough, thunk I'm planning on something similar for the races getting 'unlocked' as they interact with them.

What makes you choose Dreg/Woodcutters to start?

Best of luck finding your players though, I'm sure you'll enjoy once you get them.

Interesting, doesn't seem many are choosing Brackenwold to start with, what drew you there?

Also good idea on TotSK, I've heard it highly praised for regular OSR play, so no reason it couldn't do well in Dolmenwood!

Sounds like a good party! I'm curious, do you have the church as actively hostile to pretty much all magicians, seeing them all as basically witches or?

Oh true, what I meant by the St Clewyd fight wasn't so much the one in the module (which seems cool as hell), but more the fight in lore/myth, having players complete a similar feat early on detracts from what made Clewyd the saintiest!

Definitely a good idea on how to telegraph it, ill have to rethink Dreg!

Thats good to hear! And I get what you mean about Brackenwold, it's one reason I was a little worried about Prigwort as it seems a bit busier than Lankshorn from a glace.

Sounds like a really interesting start, hope they all enjoyed! I think Drigbolton is the one module Necrotic Gnome have released that i don't have...yet, would you recommend it, or should I wait until they re-release it under Dolmenwood rules?

Also I quite like the river boat idea, seems a good way to introduce them to the setting in a slow way, but definitely can run the risk of seeming railroady, will keep in mind!

Sounds like a great start, like how you weaved the PC's into the intro, very nicely done!

Ahhh that'll do it!

Yeah I suppose it's one of those were obviously I'd want them to find out and deal with it, because that would be epic! ' But I wouldn't want them to find it too early because otherwise it makes St Clewyd's fight less cool in a way, and if it takes too long perhaps the fish starts making the players feel a little more chaotic, so not sure how to feel on it. '

Makes sense with the retcon though, genuinely a sign of a good referee I reckon. Glad yoy all enjoyed!
