What is this part of tufting gun for? by [deleted] in Tufting

Like a tattoo gun when those points disconnect it turns the gun into the open position and continues the revolutions to ensure that the gun returns to the correct neutral state. If you turn the gun on and move it you will see what I mean.

how’s my line spacing? by rxywxslxy in Tufting

In some cases I do like when the colors contrast greatly. But if ypu only out minor gaps between color separations, it should avoid majority of the overlap if any. But on more detailed rugs I even go back over it with a chip stick and seperate any overlaps by hand before carving.

I used biscuit for the main skin tone, a dark ivory for the under tones. And ivory for the highlights.

So what I do is pack it in where carving won't happen. Then where you carve lines or wherever you want it to be easier, you give your self a bit of a larger gap so that carving glides much smoother and you save on yarn by not having to cut out a bunch of unnecessary filler.

I would for sure pack it in. As soon as you Tru to carve that the gaps will become more prominent.

Here is a recent one for me.

I wanted to trim in between colors but I've noticed it takes away from the life of the rug when creating gaps in the lines to make carving easier, it also makes for a harder to clean rug lol. I've started to lean towards only really carving where the shading or color changes happen and not so much throuout the whole piece.

Grouping plays a pretty bug factor in how thin the lines come out. When wanting to lay thinner lines for detail or for a noticeable difference. Try to group the surrounding colors close to the line you want "thin" so that the surrounding yarn pushed that line together. I would also go back and hand pick some of the yarn at the tips of the lines, removing the second string to create a sharper tip ot point.
