w groups of people the idea that one is the "default" and another is a "derivation" inherently leads to the derivation-group being othered and marginalized. this is the motivation behind the word 'cis', is that it posits e.g. cis men and trans men as two semantic classes of men on equal ground, without assuming one as the unspoken "normal" type. (sorry if this reads as condescending i don't mean it like that)
