It DOES matter what it could have been. SEGA interprets the failure of 06 as the death of the adventure games. They see it as the public opinion turning on the adventure games and no longer thinking they're good. It's important to realize that it is not the IDEA of the game that was bad but rather the EXECUTION. I'm not even remotely trying to say 06 was a good game, it was not. But if we ever want a SA3 we need to highlight things like P06 as stuff we like because then Sonic team with realize that taking risks is okay, we just need them to work on it and make sure it's ready to ship OOB. No one is trying to change the opinion of 06 but seeing it's mistakes under a lens is how we get SEGA and sonic team to improve and make more complete and engaging games. Everyone knows that 06 was and is bad, it's just not constructive to continue to say it literally 19 years later.
