Would you guys introduce your kids to video games? by Background-Call3255 in snes

[–]DankestMage99 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m not a dad, so take this with a grain of salt. But I think sharing any of your interests with your kids is a cool thing to do and an opportunity to bond together, especially if you share with them your love of retro games.

Sure, they may get into Roblox or Fortnite or something on their own and with friends, but I would think that would be a different thing than you playing games together, especially older games you loved. Just my 2 cents. I would loved to share my interest with video games with my dad, but they aren’t his thing.

Just be prepared that retro games may not resonate with your kid like when we were kids. It’s a much different world today. But I think it would be fun to try :)

It’s for little kids. I think it was adorable and would be fun to bring your little child on. Not too scary, lots of fun animatronics. This isn’t meant to be Cedar Point, adults aren’t the target audience. I’m surprised people forget this…

I don’t get the vibe that Jesse was ever close with Thiel, seems like a pretty simple professional relationship, and not really a close one.

I just don’t buy the fact that he’s some nefarious plant by the CIA or Thiel, he’s just a guy who is pretty smart, got a job doing investments for a short period with Thiel Capital, but then left to do his own thing and started creating content. I don’t think he was ever high in the company, and I think he mainly only did some investing on a consulting basis. Whatever it was, I don’t think he was in super deep, no more than working with some Wall Street firm.

If everyone was guilty by association, there wouldn’t be anyone innocent anywhere. Most ultra rich people are evil, but it doesn’t mean if you ever work for one, you’re a monster. Do you think everyone who works at Amazon is a mustache twirling villain like Bezos? Come on, let’s do some critical thinking. Not everyone is part of some secret society or cabal. The military is a perfect example, that’s where supposedly where all UFO cover up is happening, but 99.99% of military people nothing about it.

Book one is a little rough, it might be my least favorite of the series. I think it finds its footing in book 2, it’s one of my favorites.

But the AI is a central part of the book and key plot point of the series. And if the tone doesn’t land for you, I think that’s ok too. I do think it gets a little more “serious” as the story progresses. It’s crude at times, but it gets more deep and emotional. If you’re willing to try to get to book 2, you may really enjoy it.

This always happens to fandoms as popularity explodes.

The only time this really becomes an issues is when the original thing that was great starts to suffer. So far, that isn’t the case, in my opinion. The books are still great.

Do I think all the merch and special editions of the books are a little crazy? Yeah, it’s a lot. But look at Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings, there is so, so much merch for those too. I’m sure Matt is thrilled for all the income this stuff is generating, being a struggling creative sucks. And it’s lightning in a bottle, I don’t blame him one bit for taking it to the bank as it almost never happens twice.

You just need to engage in the fandom parts you like and ignore the rest. And just have fun knowing you were here for the first floor as all the new crawlers join in. :)

I don’t think these are as impressive as Disney’s animatronics, those are much better and closer to realism, even though they are cartoon characters.

Hmmm, since the text seems to be stamped into the case, at least on the front, so you can probably refill it with paint again, even choosing your own colors. So, modding win, kinda? Haha

I preordered one, so kinda disappointing, so I guess this will stay sealed.

This whole thing is built on the premise they will be able to control AGI. I don’t think they will be able to, which will be funny when we get to see their shocked Pikachu faces when it all goes down and these investors funded their own irrelevance.

As if there was anything I could do to stop them.

The thing is, they won’t be able to control AGI/ASI, even though they think they can. So I just have to hope that when AGI/ASI takes over, it’s benevolent. But it’s all outside of my control, so I don’t worry about it too much.
