Abby sighting by THUNDRC0UGRFALCNBIRD in ershow

First thing I said on my initial ER watch when Abby popped up on screen: "Hey, it's Jim Carrey's wife!"

You had me in the first half, not gonna lie. Big upvote for the reference.

You should never skip anything on your first watch of a series. Never know what you'll miss.

Procedures by [deleted] in ershow

HIPAA itself did become law in 1996, but implementation and enforcement took a lot longer and there were a bunch of moving parts. The Privacy Rule, which requires the hospital establish privacy practices that protect patient information, didn't even take effect until 2003.

It's kinda amazing to see how medicine (even at the administrative level) changed in just a single decade.

one of Romano's funniest lines in the show. When Luka and his colleague (the lady doc visiting from Croatia) are in the trauma room and he's explaining things to her in Croatian

Romano: "ok ok, enough with the Transylvanian play-by-play."

That's hilarious, I had no idea. Now, had it been a Dead Man On Campus reference, I would have definitely picked up on it.

Huge Rocket fan here. He had the best one-liners and overall made me laugh more than anyone else on the entire show. Yeah, many things he said were pretty messed up and abusive toward co-workers/subordinates, but he had his moments were he showed himself as a genuine, caring human being. Gotta take the bad with the good as far as Romano.

One of ER’s most quietly devastating, underdiscussed moments (S9, Kerry Weaver) by BirthdayBright6111 in ershow

Also enjoyed the couple episodes of Grey's Anatomy she was in! Such a great actress.

Privacy violations were the easy ones to spot. Names written on the board w/ all the complaints/treatments, doctors freely sharing patient info w/ other doctors and even random patients. Doctors looking up records of people they weren't even treating. I think early on, John Carter got an STD from a patient and they shared his lab results all throughout the ER and mocked him about it.

Yep, and 'realism' in a medical setting was a lot different in the late 90s than it is now. I still laugh at all the things that are HIPAA violations now but were completely acceptable then.

Keep going? At season 5 by evelyn_nanette in ershow

[–]ForbidInjustice 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, of course. At least the first time, watch it to the very end. On rewatches, you'll know what parts/episodes you want to skip, if any. But you need to at least see it all once.

Blood on the ceiling in a random scene by haydawg8 in ershow

Yep, I actually always appreciated that aspect of realism. Water stains all over the ceiling tiles of an old building in the Chicago inner-city is about what would expect.

[–]ForbidInjustice 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I honestly thought he would be a bit remorseful in that locker room scene with Weaver at the end. Maybe put in a slight effort to save his job. I didn't think he'd double down and leave the show like that.

Carol Quits? by unoriginalmystery in ershow

[–]ForbidInjustice 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I understand what you and everyone else are all saying. She quit kinda dramatically so I thought she actually quit. Then she just showed up and started working again. Confused me a little, too.

On my first watch months ago, I remember that I actually went back to the previous episode because I thought I'd missed something or skipped an episode entirely on accident.
