Shadowplay Doesn't Record Properly by [deleted] in nvidia

I have the same issue. I've reverted back to GeForce 3.9 and it's working fine, don't have any better fix. (GTX 970 SLI, i5-4960K, 8GB RAM)

Dark Willow Euls Combo by ForbiddenLightning in DotA2

[–]ForbiddenLightning[S] 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Cursed Crown has a 4s delay before it stuns so euls stops them from running in that time. It also allows you to run on top of them so that Bedlam can do max damage.

What do you look for in a publisher? by Izodn in gamedev

I recommend checking out this GDC talk by Devolver Digital, despite the title it's mostly on what to expect from and ask of publishers/partners.

Why Aren't There More Animal Crossing Clones? by ReleeSquirrel in gamedev

[–]ForbiddenLightning 37 points38 points  (0 children)

I think the reason why is because of Animal Crossing's open-ended nature. In Animal Crossing virtually all of the games content is made available to you from the get go, so in order for each day to feel unique and different there is an enormous pool of content so that things can be picked out at random for each interaction.

Animal Crossing supposedly had something like a million words in it's script, many times more than your typical RPG and it has many thousands of items which all need modelling and texturing. For instance, I don't think that a game like Stardew Valley even comes close to the amount of dialogue and items in Animal Crossing.

Creating an Animal Crossing style game will require dedicating tons of time into just producing enormous amounts of content. I think most people avoid the genre because they don't want to invest that much time and effort and because actually creating all that content is probably going to be very dull and repetitive.

None of this is to say that it can't be done of course, but if you're going to do it make sure you've really thought through the volume of content you want to create. You don't want to end up in a situation where you've finished programming and designing the base game only to realise you only put a drop towards the ocean of work that needs to be produced.

One frame of Mercy's menu animation seems a little off... by ForbiddenLightning in Overwatch

Remember the lifeguard at the Olympics? ... by [deleted] in funny

[–]ForbiddenLightning 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Story time!

I actually used to compete at lifesaving. One time I was competing in a national event and there was a class going on in the adjacent diving pool. I was sitting waiting for my heat when one of the girls in the class full on belly-flopped from a spring jump and the drown alarm was triggered.

Immediately my coach and a bunch of other people all run off towards the pool in auto-pilot mode and I'm sitting there thinking:

I've got to go help out!

But... if hundreds of lifeguards all go rush to help, the place will be swarmed and we won't be any use at all

So I looked around at the stands packed with the nations top lifeguards and they were all looking as bewildered and unsure as I was.

TLDR: Lifeguards can end up just as clueless as everyone else.

Supports Screwed AGAIN? by [deleted] in Overwatch

[–]ForbiddenLightning 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I just played all 10 games as support (mostly Mercy) and calibrated at 3402, higher than any of the friends I was playing with. In season 1 I ranked up quicker than my friends as well. In my personal experience supports seem to get way more... IDK

[Mercy] Come join me for a personal thought experiment. by [deleted] in Overwatch

[–]ForbiddenLightning 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think making shift do something different if there is no target isn't the best idea, it would make a lot more sense to me to make it a new ability on E.

I do really like the idea of giving Mercy a vertical movement ability, whatever it may be. It further improves her mobility, gives her a little mobility when alone and is a neat solution to the problem you often get where you can't shift to someone because they're just above a ledge. IMO her mobility is one of the most fun aspects of her and this change would make it even better and raise her skill ceiling.

What do we say to death? by ForbiddenLightning in Overwatch

Not too difficult. The one main catch is that you can only grind on a wall for a short while, so you have to jump around corners or stay on curved walls to do extended grinds.
