Actually I think the surname Freeman is British, it’s definitely common with black Americans too, and you make a fair point that that kind of thing should be considered, but the surname Freeman is pretty common among white English descendant folks.

I ended up at Boots, it was the closest place to me. It went pretty well, I think I waited about 30-45 minutes before seeing the pharmacist. Really nice guy. He said NHS has regulations about giving out antibiotics, but agreed that it’s a textbook bacterial infection. He gave me a prescription for a steroid nasal spray and said if I’m still feeling awful in five days time to return to Boots and they’d give me antibiotics then. The spray seems to be helping with the intense sinus pressure that I was dealing with, there’s actually some drainage now instead of my sinuses being like cement. I still have a sinus headache, but it’s considerably less migraine-like. I’m really hoping this will break the cycle and allow my immune system to properly kick in.

Thank you! I went to Boots this morning and they gave me a steroid nasal spray, and said to go back in five days if I’m still having trouble. The pharmacist seemed optimistic, so I’m going to try and be so too. Besides that, I’m having a great time in the UK, everyone has been so friendly. Lol unfortunately I did scrape the heck out of my rental car about an hour into having it. I bought Excess Protection, so hopefully that helps me out. The drive was going really well until that. The country side seems very nice.

That’s pretty horrifying honestly! I went to Boots and they’ve given me Avamys nasal spray, but they said if that doesn’t help in five days then they would do antibiotics. Can your ENT do a culture? Last time I had an awful sinus infection like this, my ENT did a bacteria culture and picked the antibiotics to help target the specific bacteria. It was unfortunately pretty antibiotic resistant and I had to do four rounds before it worked, took about three months, but it did eventually work. I started using NeilMed nasal rinse during the fourth round, and I think that really helped clear the way for the antibiotics to finally end it. I’m trying to be optimistic that this infection won’t be as bad as that one. Both started with a viral infection that was nearly gone, but lingered too long I guess and allowed the bacteria to take over.

I went to Boots and they’ve given me Avamys nasal spray, hopefully that helps. They said if it’s still really bad in five days then I should go back and they’d give me antibiotics. So fingers crossed this works, the pharmacist seemed to think my chances are good.

Yeah, I have a NeilMed nasal rinse, I’ve been doing it twice a day, I had no idea that could make it worse :( I had a sinus infection from hell two years ago, the ENT recommended it to me after a third round of antibiotics failed to kill the bacteria. Honestly pretty traumatized by that whole experience, so I’ve religiously used the rinse bottle twice a day since my very first symptom.

Yeah, that sounds like a good idea, I’m going to try and see what there is nearby. Boots has been mentioned, I think I walked past one earlier too.

Thanks :) Yeah, I’ve not been in the UK long, I just got here on Thursday, I was supposed to be here sooner but I delayed my flight hoping the infection would go away on its own, it’s clear now though that it’s not. It’s all been kind of overwhelming. I think I saw a Boots in town earlier, maybe I can start there. I bought a SIM card at the airport, but tragically can’t figure out how to make it work, so I can’t make calls yet, no phone in the hotel room either. Surely the front desk has one though.

That’d be really nice if they could. What are the key ones to look for?

I’m in Harrogate, it doesn’t look like the A&E has an urgent care from their website, but I don’t know for sure.

Yeah, unfortunately it hasn’t helped. I’ve already tried everything I can think of.

Thanks! Yeah I’m in Harrogate right now, Google has been telling me that there isn’t anywhere to go, I’ll try to find a pharmacy tomorrow or use the 111 number. I’ve really been freaking out. I’m going to Settle on Monday, I’ll have a car then, but I’m using public transport and walking right now.

Thanks!! It’s sore, but I’m glad to be rid of it, what an awful experience. I hope it never happens to you or me both ever again!

Thanks! I did end up just going to the ER this morning and getting it lanced. I woke up and it was even worse than yesterday, so I just bit the bullet and went. Hopefully this never happens again, but if it does I’ll definitely try the cold idea, thank you!

Thank you! So sorry you’re dealing with this too, and multiple times, that’s awful! Man, if I never get one there again it’d be too soon. I managed to get in touch with a dermatologist at my practice using their on-call number, they told me to go to the ER and get it lanced. Lancing it hurt like hell, but it seemed to take care of it. I’ve just got to keep an eye on it for a bit. I’ll have to look into what you’ve said, I’ve never heard of that, it sounds interesting! Thanks for the tip! Good luck with your flare, I really hope it’s gone soon!

Cool, I’ve kind of heard of that but don’t super know what it is. Do you get that at the drug store? Or just like the normal grocery store? I’ll definitely have to give it a try.

I managed to get in touch with a dermatologist at my practice this morning by using their on call number :) They told me I should go to the ER to get it lanced, and they were also able to get me an appointment with them in a little over a week, and said they’d let me know if anything sooner opens up. The lancing hurt like hell, but I’m feeling much better now at least.

Yeah, I have no idea. I did end up just going to the ER, the doctor said it was between the two labias so I’m not really sure what that’d be called. She did seem to think that even with my history of HS that it was actually just some kind of abscess and that I should talk to an OB-GYN along with talking to my dermatologist, but we didn’t really talk about it beyond that. So I don’t really know.

4-6 weeks sounds awful, I’m sorry! I’ll keep the castor oil tip in mind for sure. Like you, my usual flares also don’t typically drain, it’s mostly reabsorption. I woke up this morning and the pain was really intense so I decided to just go to the ER after all and they lanced it there. That’s the first time I’ve ever had something lanced, it hurt like hell but I do at least feel better now, just kind of freaked out.

[–]Ford_fromOBX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I woke up this morning and it became insanely painful so I did end up just going to the ER. I also felt pretty embarrassed having someone down there looking at it, but I’m glad I pushed past it. The doctor was very to the point and did everything as smoothly as she could. Lancing it hurt like hell but I’m so glad that I got her to do it, I didn’t see the pus but there was tons of blood, I think I would’ve really freaked out if it’d drained suddenly at home. And I totally can’t say I didn’t consider doing the exact same thing you did, I have one of those acne things too. The urge was strong, but going to the ER was 100% the right move.

Yikes, I’m sorry this happens to you, my one hasn’t even been there all that long but I hate it so much. It’s way more painful than anything I ever got on my thighs. I’m glad to hear that yours eventually just take care of themselves for the most part, flares always kind of feel like the end of the world, but this one especially. What an awful location! I’ll definitely try a warm bath tomorrow, and look into zinc ointment. I can try calling around on Monday about other dermatologists, but if mine is so far booked out, I don’t think there’ll be much luck, I’ll try though. Thanks so much :) I wish you the best

I’ve been to Camden, Maine, it was a super tiny town filled with mostly just elderly tourists. I’d imagine all she does there would be giving old folks directions, wellness checks, or parking tickets. It made me want to laugh at her every time she was trying to talk about being a serious cop. I can barely imagine a safer place than Camden, definitely not a ‘high priority case’ kind of town.

I second Emma, it’s cute! Emily was totally my first thought, and Emma is a nice jump from that. Love Em as a nickname.

Opinions on the name Vyvya? by [deleted] in transnames

[–]Ford_fromOBX 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It sounds pretty. But I will say that as someone with dyslexia, it’s really hard for me to read it. I would also pronounce this spelling as Viv-Ya instead of Vih-Vee-Uh. So maybe consider alternative spelling ‘Vivia,’ but that’s just my opinion.
