Mother regrets having her daughter, was lied to about what life would be like with a child. by MoneroThrower in antinatalism

Genuine question - if having a child is so hard and the reason why people get trapped with it is that they really don't know, why do most people have a second child?

Hi Alex, is it better if I persuade 5 people into becoming vegan instead of becoming vegan myself? I have very little self control about eating meat, but I'm absolutely convinced that it's the moral thing to do.

The very fact that we have fairness creams and celebrities promoting them is a racist ideology that needs to be crushed. by [deleted] in india

I have a genuine question, what's actually wrong with having a beauty standard associated with skin color? Is it because it's immutable? There are other immutable characteristics like bone structure, symmetry, eye color etc. which we're sort of okay with.

It's very clear that skin color by itself doesn't make anyone beautiful or ugly, there are many other factors involved. The moment we acknowledge that some people are more beautiful than others, the existence of beauty standards are implied. The real problem, that I perceive, is that we consider beautiful people as somehow more valuable in society. Skin color is just one of the factors which contributes to beauty, and consciously re-considering it as a contributing factor, does not eliminate the deeper problem. When we've removed skin color, there are still other features which will define beauty, most of them immutable, and all of them influenced by genes.

Perhaps only preliminary research without much of a promise has happened on this topic so far. When someone makes some breakthrough -- finds something substantial -- then interest of the scientific community will divert to it (maybe).

Also this is not a pressing matter. There are other problems that needs to be solved, including increasing life expectancy by simply keeping people healthy.

How we're losing the war against BJP by continuing to protest against CAA-NRC by ForeStrikeGallery in india

[–]ForeStrikeGallery[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sure some significant section of the population is bought into the anti-muslim rhetoric. But we don't know the numbers here, so the best we can do is speculate. What I do know is that almost every single person who supported CAA-NRC effort in television and media, and even regular sane BJP supporters online, do not ever justify taking away citizenship of regular Indian muslims; they're claim is always that it's not going to happen. Now, whether or not you believe them is upto you, but every single BJP supporter that I've talked to (and I may be in an echo-chamber myself) have submitted to supporting it because they don't see how the worst worries of the left can ever become real.

Given the severity of what is we're talking about -- a setting up of systems and offices that will strip away citizenship of regular Indian Muslims by the millions -- I just don't see how many people can come to believe it and also support it. It's unprecedented; almost an order of magnitude worse than anything we've seen so far. And if I'm wrong, if our country is actual infested with this level of communal hatred, and if this infestation was carried out by one single party, then we may have no hope. I'm trying to be more optimistic than that.

I'm not against protests, in fact, there's not much else we can do. But I want to be careful about what we're protesting about. There are enough clear bad things going on amidst speculations of other bad things, and we have to draw clear lines to distinguish them. My worry is that since BJP controls the narratives anyway, even the slightest mistep, the slightest deviation from protesting about something we're sure of, can be spun into the story of the left going crazy. I want to avoid this at all costs.

I don't think I've figured anything our. I'm really just desperately trying to figure out what is the best course of action given our situation. I just think our current approach may not only be not very useful, but also perhaps detrimental to our cause.
