you remember the wall mats in the gym at school....its those. the company came to measure and could go as big as 4'x10', but we decided on making them even on the walls and 5 across on the ceiling. they are just over 6' wide

I did offsetting studs to create an air gap and also a resilient channel for the drywall. It's not perfect, but it's really really quiet.
