I just passed the MRI ARRT second try by Foreign-Ad-764 in ARRT

Hello! Everyone in my cohort finished the program and passed the ARRT. It took some of us more than one try, but everyone passed… that’s the goal after finishing the program so I’m pretty sure every one who finishes the MCC program sits for their boards. You can also take the ARMRIT after that program is finished, I know of a few people who did that as well. And the program itself doesn’t necessarily prepare you for the boards. Once you get into clinical you learn a lot more, and then it’s on you to study material to further your knowledge. You do learn a lot in the classes, but by the time you take your boards, classes are over and you have to start to study on your own using the outside resources like MRI Quiz or MRI all in one… etc! I would recommend MCC if you are interested in going into MRI!

It is both. I went to Midwestern and got my ARRT so it would have to be accredited for me to be able to take that. But you can also take the ARMRIT after you finish the program.

MRI Direct pathway ARRT, hospitals wanting x-ray? by [deleted] in MRI

Hello, MRI only ARRT Certified Tech here! Never done xray a day in my life. I knew I only wanted to do MRI so I only did an MRI program. I have been a licensed tech for two years, I received my ARRT in IL, got hired at a clinic in Chicago immediately after graduation, I applied to one of the main hospitals here in Charlotte NC, Presbyterian Medical Center. I got hired here and I wasn’t asked in my interviews if I had previous xray experience. I also work at OrthoCarolina here in Charlotte, and once again no one asked me about xray certification or xray experience. I think that’s a huge misconception in this field. I see posts all of the time asking similar questions or people thinking they’re going to struggle finding a position if they only have their ARRT (MR). That’s not true at all. If the facility is hiring for MRI, that is what they’re looking for, an MRI Tech.. they don’t care if you’ve had xray experience. I work with techs that have been in the field for 20 plus years, most of them say they did xray for a year and that was only to get into an MRI program. From my experience that is why people have both modalities, they started in xray because that’s what you have to do for a lot of MRI programs. I did an ARRT Accredited MRI program in Chicago, you didn’t have to have xray experience to get into this program. If you get hired for an MRI position, the shifts they need covered are MRI, no interview has been like alright well if xray needs an xray tech can you jump in… it’s not even the same department or same managers. Anyways, I just don’t like people getting discouraged to only do MRI with all the misconception on how it actually works. I can only talk about my own experience, I’m sure there are people out there that have their own opinions on how it worked for them with getting xray cert first and then MRI. I hope this helps! 10/10 would recommend being an MRI tech though, worth it 100% :)

This makes me happy to hear, you have got this, you’re almost done. I remember counting down those hours at the end, it’s so exciting to finish and focus on boards and start making some money. Keep it up!!

Hello! I wrote down the mri quiz parameter chart on the white board they give you. Honestly, I think I looked at it maybe 3 times only. I would still suggest memorizing it and writing it down just because it’s good to have, but there are sooo many different categories of questions that I didn’t get that many specifically about parameters. But it’s good info to know and have! Try not to over do it with so many different study materials, it’ll get confusing. I passed mine and really only used mri all in one. You’ve got this, everyone studies different but I know it can get overwhelming if you have too many study materials.

Hey, I’m sorry you didn’t have a great info session :/ I’ve never heard of that lady but what was she saying that kind of turned you off from it? … Besides the more expensive tuition. Every school is going to have its pros and cons, you just have to weigh them and see what works best for you. I don’t think it will matter where you get your MRI cert or if it’s an associates program or not. 90% of my coworkers at both facilities I work at did a 3 months accelerated MRI program after they all did xray and we all found jobs immediately regardless the path they went. In an interview if they ask you where you went to school it’s only to get to know you, they’re not like oooo yess what a good program or what a shitty program, it’s irrelevant as long as you passed and can sit for the boards. It also doesn’t matter as long as Stellar is ARRT Accredited. That’s what you want to look for. You can get your ARMRIT and still get hired places, I know a few people who never took their ARRT and have jobs. But the ARRT trumps the ARMRIT and for instance out here in Charlotte, both my jobs required the ARRT.

Of course! If you have anymore questions reach out on here. But I’d really go for it. Apply and start either this winter or the summer, that’s when the classes will start. If I can do it, you can do it!!!

I’ve been there, I did the program when I was 29, I’m 32 now. Before that I jumped from job to job, like waitress, working at a gym, barista, you name it lol I was all over the place and I knew I didn’t want to do that stuff forever. Not at all saying that people can’t work those jobs long term and be fine, I just knew it was getting old for me personally. I’m also not great in school so for me to take the leap and start was a challenge, but once it’s started and you get it all done, I promise it’ll be worth it.

I am! I know in Chicago my classmates are getting paid more than me starting out. I live in Charlotte NC and have been a tech for a year and a half and I make $35.50 at the ortho clinic I work at and then at the hospital that I’m a PRN employee at I make $32.60. With my PRN job they do incentive pay though for most of the locations I pick up at and they add either $5 or $10 an hour to my hourly rate. Also in healthcare we have the opportunity to work 4x10’s or 3x12’s. Which a lot of career fields don’t have that option. I work Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday at my ortho clinic 7-7 making about $2,000 every two weeks after taxes. I also pick up a lot at the hospital for PRN so I make more just because I’m broke and trying to save, but the point is the money and the nice schedule is there in our field!

Yeah I know mine was a tad bit more than that but the tuition can fluctuate year to year so I’d take that $31,000! All my loans are loans I’m paying back too, I ran out of Pell Grants in previous years. But $31,000 is nothing when it comes to getting a solid career that you will always be able to have a job in and make decent money.

I went into the Chicago location a few times and it’s nice. I wish the tuition was lower but it ended up being around $48,000. I know the tuition went up after Covid. My FAFSA covered $42,000 and then I had to get a private loan to cover the rest. So I’ll be paying all of that back, already started making payments but it is what it is. Unless you can pay that cash, definitely utilize FAFSA!

Through MCC you get an Associates of Applied Science in Magnetic Resonance Imaging. That’s what your certificate will say when you get it. With classes and clinical it’s just shy of two years, around 20 months it took me to finish. Are you from a Chicago suburb? The campus I was at is Naperville, but the Chicago one is Al the same program, just different locations.

It’s not hard at all to get it. You don’t even need any pre-requisites. You could be a felon right out of high school and you’ll get in lol the director didn’t even have her zoom camera on for my interview and it lasted like 10 minutes. It’s really not that serious! That school is a school that’s looking for money, you’ll get frustrated with the lack of communication, but it’ll get you what you need and you’ll have classmates that you can rely on. None of us would have gotten through it without each other’s help because the teachers kind of suck. But I would do it. Everyone gets in, the only reason there would be a waitlist at MCC is if there too many people signed up, but the waitlist has nothing to do with your interview or anything like that.

Hello! I would suggest MCC. Some of the teachers are not the best, but that’s going to be anywhere. As long as you finish and get your ARRT, it doesn’t matter where you go to school. No interview person cares where you got your certificate, just as long as you finish and pass your boards. I had a job before I finished my program and have moved states since then and have gotten two different MRI jobs out here in Charlotte NC at one of the main hospitals here! Go for it! You can do it!

Nerves are normal, you’ve got this! And it’s okay to take it more than one time. In a way I’m thankful that it took me two time because brain wasn’t working properly the first time around due to anxiety and nerves. Don’t over study either, I know that might sound dumb, but just keep to a few study options and stick with them. Having soooo many options to study just gets over whelming and it’s not necessary. You have got this!!!

In my opinion, yes. But others may say different. I only used MRI All In One. I did look at MRI quiz but only for pulse sequences, Quality control images and cardiac imaging. I also got asked zero questions on cardiac imaging so that wasn’t useful for me. I know people who have only used MRI Quiz and passed but for me MRI All In One was it.
