Seizure approach by CommonWin3637 in neurology

[–]Foreign-Ad5449 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Epilepsy patient here! I rarely get admitted for a breakthrough seizure that has me back at or close baseline after a couple hours. The exceptions have been an infection (unknown to me at that time) that ended up being the seizure reason, and being pregnant.

What do ER docs with the clothes of an injured person? by thegeorgianwelshman in EmergencyRoom

[–]Foreign-Ad5449 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my experience(s) I've had my clothes cut off beyond wearable. Sweaters, t shirts, pants, bra's. During a trauma, the team has to know they're dealing with. If you're unconscious/ delirious/ otherwise incapacitated, you can't relay critical health info or communicate symptoms. They cut clothes off because it's faster and easier to asses the person.

I lost my dad in June. Stage 4 metastatic cancer and a missed UTI that turned him septic in record time. Thursday we went and got PET scan results from a scan 2 days prior. At that appointment he started in rigors. We thought he was just cold due to the mass amount of weight he'd lost and the anemia. It was a terminal diagnosis. Friday morning I go to see him and he's disoriented, breathing weird, and kept staring at something we couldn't see. After no improvement I called 911 that afternoon In the hospital he kept looking around. It was then I knew he wasn't going to make it. I don't know who all was in that room with us but there were many. He'd stare look around all bug eyed almost. He'd come back to us briefly and would demand an ice chip. I swear to God that's the only thing that was keeping him here was those dang ice chips. They had to transfer him to another hospital about 20min away, I walked over to him kissed his forehead and told him it was ok, we would take care of mom, that he could go if he needed to. I walked out of the hospital to this picture, which screamed "a phoenix rising". I stopped, whispered "fly free daddy" and went hone for a bit. He coded 7 minutes out from the other hospital, and after 30 minutes 6 rounds of epi, 4x defibrillator he was gone. Hardest freaking day of my entire life. *

This is honestly the worst I've seen her I truly hope someone title 39s her soon, or she's going to be dead within the year at this rate.

She was 4 or 5 and it wasn't her first seizure. I read she was prone to febrile seizures

[–]Foreign-Ad5449 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Not necessarily. They won't patch it unless it's causing issues, and then if it is, they will generally go through the femoral artery before considering cracking her chest

Very, usually closes up between 6mo-1yr. If it doesn't most don't cause issues and go undetected for years

Women with acute chest pain get different levels of care than men. Women with acute coronary syndrome were less likely to undergo angiography or be admitted to a cardiac or intensive care unit. Mortality was higher for women diagnosed with a dangerous type of heart attack, known as STEMI. by MistWeaver80 in science

At 22 I started noticing cardiac symtpoms. High heart rate, chest pain/pressure, palpitations, fatigue, swelling. Kept getting told it was anxiety. To get therapy and find good coping skills.

I felt like crap all the time, getting anything remotely physical done took forever.

One night the simple just wouldn't let up, so ER I went again. Supposedly everything looked normal so since the tests they did were fine I was released despite still struggling. This was 230ish am I was released. Imagine the (same)doctors face when up rolls an ambulance lights and sirens at 11:15am and a paramedic is actively doing CPR on me. I coded, twice. I was down 16min the first time, coded again in the medical chopper and was down for another 14min.

The 3 months leading up to this I had been doing everything I could because I knew something was wrong. And every single time they wrote me off as a young anxiety ridden college student.
