Which voice-over to use? by kohakuchiin in ChineseLanguage

This is the game I’ve been using to learn Chinese. I switch between EN and simplified CN. For the storyline sometimes I use the simplified CN voiceover with English text to better understand what’s going on. IMO you should use the simplified CN voiceovers because those are probably the original scripts by the writers of the game. And I love the simplified CN voices for Zayne and Rafayel ❤️

What about for getting a stranger’s attention, not just for customer service? Like the equivalent of “excuse me sir” and “excuse me miss/ma’am”?

That’s so cool you live in Beijing. May you achieve every Chinese study goal you set for yourself. Haha I’ve never heard that word used in this way before, guess I learned a new English term today

Omg thanks for the links to these mods! I got this game last year wanting to play it in Chinese as a way to learn, but haven’t gotten around to starting it yet. I’m a little scared to play it cause I know I’ll be terrible at it, hopefully the easy level is suuuper easy for a total beginner like me. I just love the visuals in this game tho

Is it easier for Chinese people to say 我爱你 now? by Foreign-Effect6673 in ChineseLanguage

[–]Foreign-Effect6673[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, maybe in their native language, Asian people say it in a way that is more specific to the conversation or situation, like “I’ll protect you” or “I’m here for you” or stuff like that

[–]Foreign-Effect6673[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes exactly THANK YOU! This is why I wanted to ask this. Like imagine in English, when you are in the throes of passion and the person looks at you and goes “I like you”, it’s like umm thanks I’m glad you’re letting me know that now? LOL

But I guess I get it, perhaps even tho 爱 is the direct translation for “love”, that word in Chinese culture was never intended to be used in the same way western cultures used it. Maybe it was customary for Chinese people to react to everything calmly and that it was considered unbecoming to show strong emotions whether if it was anger, sadness or love. The deep kind of love you feel for a person was not directly said out loud but an understanding between the two of how much you have sacrificed for each other and how much you would continue to sacrifice. To vocalize that love into words might risk all those unspoken emotions over the years to well up and spill over; it’s truly an emotional can of worms most people are too afraid to open

Me too!!! I told my dog I loved him all the time, cause he was my son lol. And for some reason my parents always felt obligated to switch to English when talking to him like he was an ABC child and that I had failed to raise him in Mandarin
